Is a router a hub?

Post by pizrimp »

Does a router only spread bandwith or does it serve the purpose of a hub too? In short, if I wanted to put a printer on a network or play games on a LAN, would I have to go from a cable modem to a router to a hub?

No, the router will meet all of your needs

There are routers that only have one outgoing connection, in which case you'd need a switch or a hub as well. But most broadband routers, for use with cable or DSL, have a built in switch, which should be fine.
It's better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
