Advice on setting up Earthlink ADSL w/Linksys Router

Post by dmsmed »

My Telocity/DirectTV SDSL will be no more as of 9/10/2000. I'm in the midst of setting up my Linksys 4 port router to work with PPPoE on my new Earthlink ADSL line. My firmware revision is 1.30. Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

Thanks in advance. :D

Very easy. First, upgrade your firmware, as 1.30 is very old for PPPoE compatibility. Latest is 1.39...you're about 18 months behind.

Versions earlier than 1.35 will often have PPPoE authentication failure because they are too old to work with the ISP's version.

Simply setup to use PPPoE on the first setup page, fill in your username/password. Check the "Keep Alive" box. Bam...done.

That was exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you very much for the info. The last time I had checked (some time ago) the latest update was 1.35 and it seemed people were having very mixed results. :D

Since 1.35 came out...I hadn't encountered any problems with standard use of the routers on my setups...but still, sticking with the latest is often the best.
