Firewire is a high-speed digital interface developed by Apple computer for connecting computer peripherals. Though developed by Apple, this technology is not limited to Macs or Apple branded computers.

It's easy to use, fast, inexpensive and hot pluggable (you can plug and unplug devices without turning them off, or restarting your computer.) With its higher speeds, user friendliness and low cost, it is just a matter of time before scanners, CD-ROMs and printers are all using FireWire. IMO

The FireWire advantage can be summed up in three words: speed, speed, and more speed—at 400Mbps, it has more than 30 times the bandwidth of USB.

Things that will use firewire are scanners, cameras, removable harddrives, burners, ect ect. Your choices that use firewire are somewhat limited right now, but that will change soon enough as companys jump on the bandwagon.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Firewire

They say that firewire actually originated from the Gameboy! It was created by Nintendo to link the portable Gameboys together for multiplayer gaming. God bless Nintendo! Ahoyhoy

the new firewire revision is supposed to be twice as fast.

while USB2.0 is only marginally faster then the current firewire standard.

they both have and serve their own purposes.
