Pc & Macintosh LAN

Post by Gort9k »

My question is:

How can I build a LAN using a PC and a MAC computer. The hardware works fine, but I get lost when I try to network those blasted machines. I believe that I have to use TCP/IP, but I can't get them to see each other. Nor sharing files either

Any idea?

Thanks

Windows and Mac can't share files or see each other out of the box. The only way to have a Mac see a Windows machine and vice versa is to use third party software.

Two of the more popular programs are PC Maclan from Miramar http://www.miramar.com/ and Dave from Thursby http://www.thursby.com/default.html.

PC MacLan goes on the Windows machines, DAVE goes on the Mac.

I have used them both, and they both work ok.

I use DAVE at home because I have 1 Mac and a bunch of WinTel machines.

You will need a copy of the software on each machine.
