Attn All Senior Members: Post System Stats

Post by terrancelam »

I saw something interesting in one of the other forums I passed by alittle while ago; one of the mods over there called for all the older and more experienced members to post their (detailed) system stats for the junior members to get a view of what they should be looking at purchasing to emulated their sucess with ocing their box. So I'll go first and I'm hoping the more experience members will also post. When this is completed, hopefully we can use this posting as a link for newer members who plan on making a purchase in the next month or two or need to find someone with a similar box to theirs. Also write alittle comment on your box and if they should look to emulate yours in the next two months or not and your general performance.

Case: Medium ATX 3 Bayslot/2Floppy
PSU: Don't know, 300W AMD recommended
CPU: CeleronII 700mhz @ 1.1ghz
HS/F: Alpha PAL6035(V2.0) with Ystech 27cfm 5k/rpm fan.
Motherboard: Abit VA6 Slot 1 (Via Apollo Pro133 chipset, 2x AGP)
Ram: SDRam, Micron PC133 256mb, 64mb CAS 2-3-3 (320mb total)
Video Card: Radeon 64mb DDR with ViVo (5.5ns Hyndai ram. 4x AGP)
Sound Card: Yamaha OPLSAx 16bit sound card(ISA).
Hard Drive: Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 45 20 gig 2mb buffer 7200rpm
DvD Drive:Mashu****a 4x/24x (*Note, this was one of the first DvD drives that was available on the market at the time.)
CD-R Drive:Mashu****a 4x/8x (*Note, I got this like 2 year ago as well. FYU Mashu****a is Panasonic's japanese head corp.)
Floppy: Panasonic 1.44mb 3'5 drive.
Slot Fan: Just cooler HD cooling bay slot fan. (Is used for intake now.)
NIC:Smartlink Fast Ethernetcard 10/100Mbps(RealTek8139,PCI),
Monitor: Optiquest(Viewsonic) V95 19" monitor, H:81.4KHz V:100.0Hz @ 1024x768.

I think that's it for my system specs. As for recommendations, I really don't recommend the CPU or Mobo, as they aren't up to par with any of the other processors or mobos on the market currently. The nice ocable speed of the CPU is great, but it just barely out performs most budgeted systems. The video card is simply amazing and I still recommend it largely. Other then that, I do not recommend this system or anything variations to it as an upgrade or box purchase. A few more notes, the chipset is bottle neck and won't go any more then 250/230mb in SiSandra 2001te memory bench, and for the cpu and multimedia performance, it easily beats out the PIII 1ghz cpu (but trust me, the celeronII is no PIII.) As for 3dMark2k, I scored 3700 after tweaking memory and ocing @ 1.1ghz.

the slowest floppy drive this side of the pecos.
2x 80mm over the array
2x 80mm in the top and bottom of case.

server:
no-name mid-tower
Antec 300W PS

2 30mm fans over Atlas hdd (drive bay cooler)
60mm case fan by CPU
10/100 Intel chipset NIC (actually a Netgear RT-310 i think)
the second slowest floppy drive this side of the pecos

there's another PIII system on the LAN that i built for my freind's son and more or less gave to him. also have a bunch of extra components (2 SMC NICs, a Matrox vidcard, a SB Live soundcard, a 4GB ata/33 hdd, 3 128MB dimms and one 256MB dimm (crappy generic stuff i dont want to use in either of my systems), a 92mm hdd cooler, and a PII, BX440 and KVM switch i am packing up to send to my cousin in MO. also have a small ATX and mid-tower ATX case with no bay or expansion slot covers (more or less parts boxes).

and then there's the ancient junk i cant seem to get rid of for some strange reason.

CPU = AMD Athlon (266) 1.333Ghz
MOBO = ABIT KT7A-RAID
RAM = 512M of Crucial PC-133 CAS 2-2-2 (4-Way interleave)
HDDs = 2 x 40G Western Digital 7200 RPM ATA-100 In RAID-0
VID = Hercules GTS2 64M DDR
SOUND = SB Live Value
NIC = SMC 10/100
CDRW = HP 9100 Series
CD = Generic
CASE = Antec 1030 Black SOHO File Server with 400 Watt PS)
Cooling = Global Win WBK-38. 4 80mm fans in case.
MONITOR = Samsung SyncMaster 900SL (19" @ 1600x1200)

That's all the important stuff for my main comp. I will not post my slower systems as newbies aren't going to care about K7 Athlons and Celeries. :)

Personal comp:

Dell tower case (XPS800r series)
P3 800EB@800mhz
Samsung 256MB PC800 RDRAM
i820 Dell mobo
Dell Nvidia Geforce256(1) 64MB DDR 120core/300mem stock
SBLive! Value
Dell 12x/40x DVD
Plextor 12x/10x/32x CDRW
Dell 20GB 7200rpm ata66 HDD
Dell floppy
Logictech cordless iTouch(myself :D ) keyboard
Logitech $30 blue Optical mouse (the best)
Altec Lansing ADA885 4 speakers and subwoofer
19in Dell trinitron CRT

I bought this before learning how to build my own box. I must say that Dell made me a good box, but keep in mind they have changed alot and become more "Compaq'd", so the glory days may be over for Dell.

The i820 is the slowest performing RDRAM board you can find, but it has kept me very happy. The system feels fast and everything runs pretty stable.

Mom's hack and slash Diablo 2 box:

Generic 40 dollar case (soon to be Antec workstation case)
P3 733EB@733mhz
Mushkin rev 2 high perf PC133 SDRAM 256MB (soon to be 384 with 128MB of Crucial PC133)
Asus p3v4x
Hercules Geforce MX 32MB SDR 175core/183mem stock
SBLive! Value
Asus 40x CDROM
Western Digital 15GB 7200rpm ata66 HDD
Mitsumi floppy
Dell Quietkeyboard
Logitech $30 blue Optical mouse (the best)
Headphones hooked into old compaq speakers
17in Compaq monitor

Be weary, this config is not 100 percent stable and I had to go through alot of crap to get it to not freeze up constantly. It is running semi stable now since moving the SB Live to another PCI slot. If you have an opp to buy the p3v4x, perhaps get a different sound card and make sure to get a brand new quality CDROM drive.

Well i have lots of systems, and unfortunetly they aren't exactly up to date and what i want right now for one simple reason I"M POOR and don't got no money to buy new parts

As some of you may or may not know I also review and work on HardOCP at http://www.hardocp.com I mainly review video cards as they are my niche, however I am still very knowledgable in mobos/cpu's and overclocking lol ;)

That said I do recieve a lot of hardware for free to borrow or keep to use for benchmarking and to test with

So it makes sence that the fastest/best system I reserve as a benchmarking system which means it sits open on my desk beside me to use to switch parts in and out of for review purposes, that said here are it's specs right now which I am currently reviewing an Asus V8200 Delux GeForce3

REVIEW SYSTEM CURRENTLY
Case: currently mounted on the mobo tray from a Lian Li PC-31 case which is layed open on my desk, simply use it for stability
Power Supply: Enermax 431 Watt PSU
Motherboard: MSI K7T266 Pro Socket A DDR Mobo
CPU: AMD 1.4Ghz Athlon Thunderbird (266fsb) will clock up to 1.6 stable as a rock
HSF: Thermeltake Thermoengine
RAM: 1 stick of 128MB Thermaltake PC2100 DDR (very overclockable) and 2 sticks of 256MB Micron PC2100 DDR (not as overclockable)
Video Card: Changes a lot, currently an Asus V8200 Delux GeForce3
Sound Card: Don't have one in, I benchmark without sound, but for Dronez a soundcard is required so I use a sound blaster live value
NIC: Netgear 10/100 PCI
Hard Drive: WD 30GB 7200RPM ATA/100
Floppy Drive: Standard Floppy Drive
CDROM: 48X CDROM drive
Keyboard: Millenium Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech wheel mouse ps/2
Monitor: Optiquest 17"
OS: Win2k Pro
Whatever else i through in there for testing

Sound Card: Diamond MX300 (Aureal 2)
NIC: 3Com 3c905b-tx-nm
Hard Drive: IBM 40GB 7200RPM ATA/100 60GXP series

Yeah i don't get to keep all 6 GeForce3's :D I have to give them all back except for one, he said I can keep one of my choice for me, I'm gonna take the Gainward GeForce3 I like that one :)

Lets see he gave me the Abit KT7E which he said I can keep, he gave me the MSI K7T266 Pro he said i can keep (hopefully eventually i'll also get a KG7), he said I can keep the Duron 900 and he gave me 2 1.4Ghz Athlon Thunderbirds that he said are mine to keep, I have to give back his goody ram though the Corsair PC133 SDRAM modules and Thermaltake DDR stick and I can keep this WD 30GB hard drive for review purposes, and I cna keep the thermoengine hsf

that's all i can think of right now.....
