Can you tell me what you think of this?

Post by neveruseaol »

Okay I have decided to upgrade from an old celey 500 to an AMD T-Bird 1 GHZ w/ 266 FSB. The motherboard I was thinking of using was the ASUS A7V133 AMD SOCKET A KT133A ATA 100 ATX MOTHERBOARD. This is the first AMD i have ever used. I know they have a heat problem so if you could, what kind of heatsink should i get. I was looking at a few of the GlobalWins. It just seems that ever site has different conclusions to which heatsink is better.

And last but not least, I need to know where i can buy a nice generic case w/ a 300 watt power supply for under $50US. Preferably with the seperate removable sides.

Any help would be greatly appreciated with this subject.

Thanks,

P.S. If anyone knows of something that i should change ^ there then please put you word in. I dont think i am willing to go above 1 Gig though. If you know a website with good prices please let me know also.

Thanks again

I'd get the best case you can afford, mine was only $50 dollars, and I wish I bought better. But I didn't look around either, I thought $50 bucks was an awesome deal, and didn't research the brand of case or anything, but you should find a decent one for that price.

As far as heatsinks go, any of the major names would be fine.
Read some reviews, and go from there. Mine is a OCZ Monster 2 with the copper insert, and 7K RPM fan I believe, I have a 1.2 Athlon, it's usually around 40 C and gets as high as 55 C when I play games or whatever, I'd like it cooler, but I have to wait until I get more fans, and put the computer in a better room.

Your motherboard sound good, I would keep that the same. What prices do you have for your 1gig? I got my 1.2 from http://www.ubid.com for $124

http://www.theoverclockerzstore.com/ is where I got my HSF.
The all copper Gladiator HSF got good reviews too, keeping most PCs' at 43 C to 48 C at full load. I'm thinking of buying that.

I recommend looking into tha Abit KT7A-RAID, it uses the same chipset, but is more well known and used around here, in this forum. As for the HS/F, I was recommended the CAK-38, the globalwin's all copper hs/f with a 7k delta on it. As for the cpu, that's all up to you man.

NOTE ON THE DELTA FANS

Yeah, all sites say they're a bit loud.

The truth?

They're LOUD. Just know that ahead of time. My delta on my SK6 easily drowns out the other FIVE or SIX fans in my case. :p
