Help me tweak this

Post by TakeruKobayashi »

TCP options string = 020405b4010303000101080a000000000000000001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1448, which is less than MSS because of Timestamps, or other TCP/IP options used.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 114 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Note: Timestamps add 12 bytes to the TCP header of each packet, reducing the space available for useful data.

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Is this ok? Should I try a different RWIN?

Product Specs= 1.2GHz Thuderbird Athlon
Shaw@home cable, Realtek for Network card, Sygate home network. 256 Ram. Windows 98/XP build 2520 Pro

You have Shaw cable? I thought they were supposed to be almost as good as OOL. If thats true, you should get liek 4mbps down.

Try a speedtest in your area, or download form a good FTP (MS may be good). They are usually better than tweak speed results.

Also, the RWIN of 64240 I think is good.

Try turning Timestamps to off.
So you thought you tweaked it enough? Think again...

How do do speed test
1. The best time is early in the morning (3 AM - 6 AM)
2. Make sure defrag has been run so no files are fragmented
3. Delete Temp internet files, not while testing, but after each test. IE browser, click tools, internet options, click on delete files and no this will not harm system, just get rid of temp files
4. Go to a fast server such as http://www.happypuppy.com and click on 10 demos, select a LARGE file to download (not all of it , just most of it, before you click cancel) this will show you how fast you are downloading, it's not going to be quick except except early in morning when not many people on net. I recommend you go to http://www.analogX.com and download Net State live, run this while downloading as it will give you avg of your download speed, really all you need on Net Stat is incoming data, incoming totals and Local machine, right click on Net Stat anywhere, stactics and check these 3 items, the rest need not be checked unless you want them, all you care about is average. Another fast download site is ftp.lucasarts.com
Put system defrag in scheduled tasks to run everyday.
5. Probably the most important, nothing can be running during test, no firewalls, no virus stuff, no ICQ, no AIM (some of you may have to go into BIOS to disable virus scanner, nothing running except Net Stat live
Scheduled tasks will run disk defrag, 98 & SE in Taskbar, WIN ME in control panel
The people who want speed surfing or doing whatever must close all other programs.
(NOTE: at present time http://www.AOL.com seems to be fastest download site, at bottom download aol 6.0)
Or if you wish you may go to http://www.testmyspeed.com and do one of the online tests, these vary to much for me but you may like them.

piranha, up above click on user cp, then edit profile, put this in signature box, exactly like it is here. [/URL]

As far as speed test try downloading file, with everything off, those online tests are not to accurate, if you have to use one do this: go to http://www.pcpitstop and take full tests and click on internet at end of test
Alot of us test at http://www.pcpitstop.com and since they changed their site around alittle they now add alittle spyware thing, not to worry, following the below directions and you are safe
Compliments Of Dannjr over at Broadbandnuts.
You need to run adaware to remove them out of your registery.
Then you go to Tools on your Tool bar,
then to Internet Options,
Then click on the Security Tab,
Then click on the Restrictive Sites Icon.
Click on the "sites"
Then add these in
*.doubleclick.net
*.flycast.com
*.valueclick.com

Add them in one by one and exactly as they are above.
You may get ad aware spyware removal here: http://www.voiceofthepublic.com/Lavasoft/index.htm
I got answer on how to remove spyware from Dannjr and Buggyman

The Speedguide Analyzer isnt a speed test, like I said it tells you what you're limited to at a certain ping time with your RWIN.
