I am having a great deal of trouble setting up ICS in Win 2k Pro. I will go back to WinProxy if I have to, but I would rather not. I have tried the Help files in Win2k Pro, tried suggestions of using a fixed IP on the client machine, tried following the instructions on hXXp://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/ics-install-arch.asp
but still it will not work. Does it have to do with some administrative setting within Win2k Pro that I missed?
Server: Win2k Pro -Client Win 98
Server: PII 400, 192 ram., Cable modem. No hub. Using rj45 cable and appropriate connectors and termination plugs. (Note, hardware set-up is not a problem, as client/server machines are apearing in each others "Network Neighbourhood". I can transfer files, etc, between computers..).
Firewall: Zone Alarm Pro v. 2.6 (on server only)

hmm, i found for file sharing i had to set up a user on win2k and then use that as the logon on the other computer, i dont see why you would need to do this for ICS but.....
goto control panel, administrative tools, computer management, local users and groups, users, and right click to add a new user, it doesnt have to have a passwork, it's just win2k's "server" way of making sure only the right people have access to the right shares on the win2k machine

oops just noticed your part about file sharing, hmm, have u tried it without zonealarm running?
you do have 2 network cards in the win2k machine right?
also, u don't need termination plugs with rj45 patch cables

I think I got it...
Might of solved the problem..
within Zone Alarm, "Security SEttings" >> "Advanced" There is a section on ICS and the proper item must beck selected (i.e., "This computer is an ICS gateway"). Needless to say, it wasn't selected.. Will give it a try.. If you don't see any additional post..it's fixed.. Thanks for your help .

Got it!!!!
Thanks for replying guys. It was a stupid mistake. My 2K box had three network adn dial up connections actions. I enabled ICS ont the one I thought wsa for the NIC that connects to my DSL modem. But my DSL software creates its own connecoid which uses an Ivasion dial up adapter and that is the one that needed to have ICS enabled, thanks...........
