@Home Problem in Louisiana

Post by imtim83 »

Some of the @Home tech support people are saying they think 200 to 300 ms + pings at night is acceptable on my Cox@Home cable modem isp but i get 60 ms when its not at the times of around 6 pm to 12:30 am. But some dont and say its not good and want to fix it but it hasnt been fixed and i dont know why.
I never use to ever have this happen to me. And i had the service for 3 years. Plus the price is going up $5 in july so i am paying more money just for slower speeds. thats just not right.
if i got to i will call my news station and get them to look into it too. And maybe write a newspaper article about it to see if i can get it in the newspaper. Or maybe i should put @Home sucks sign outside by my house.
Not sure. But i will call 10 times a day if i got to so i can get my speed back i had 24/7. I even called this show Infous which i said i was getting very high pings at night and they said that should be happening and they would look into it. I also got a letter in the mail a while back which was pretty long ago about having more contant speeds 24/7 . and it use to be contant speeds 24/7 but now its like changed totally. I cant wait till there are choices of different cable isps if that ever happens.
One day it may but not today. :(
I will just keep getting credit i guess when it does it again at night everyday.
Thats all i can do and till @Home sees they are losing money from me and other @Home people here in lousisiana then i guess they will fix it.

I am so angry and mad.
I hope tonight the pings dont start going up and finally get up to 200 to 300 ms + pings
i mean when you get a ping of 50 in a quake 3 area sever and then you go to play it at night and get a ping in the 300 s thats just not good at all.

Does anyone know of any names to give me of good people in level 2 tech support on @Home ? That will want to help me fix my probem. Thanks
the number i call is 1-800-234-3993 and then i press 1 and put my ticket number in and thats how i get to level 2 tech support.

Any help is very appreicated
Thanks

Hey one more thing if anyone else here is from louisiana and having the same problems please tell me. Cause you should call tech support on level 1 since they do the credits and get some credit for how long the slow downs been going on. i was able too.
Because if enough of us do this they will fix the problem cause imagine how much money they would lose a month.

Has anyone been out to your house to check out the signal etc? You won't need a level 2 tech unless this is a problem affecting several people in your area. Keep calling until you get a tech that agrees that there is a problem. Is your modem a Cisco or a newer Docsis? If it's a newer docsis have the tech bring it up in the matrix and check to see if anything looks wrong, and also to check out how it has looked over the past 7 days. Hopefully they will find something wrong and they can send a tech out to make adjustments. How are your download speeds? If everything comes back OK in all of their tests and you are still getting erratic ping times they should send a tech anyhow, hopefully with a laptop. Good luck.

They dont ever bring laptops
i think i saw that only once but that was a while ago about 2 years ago if not longer. i had a tech a few weeks ago out for lots of packet loss , and websites wouldnt come up compeletely.
like it was 50 to 100% of packet loss a lot.
my download speeds were 260 KB/sec to 270 to 280 KB/sec today then 190 KB/sec and now they are around about 140 to 150 KB/sec :(
its going to soon go down to 25 to 35 KB/sec at around 7 to 9pm like yesterday. And it last till like 12am if not longer :( And a this been happening for about 2 weeks now. Trying to find more people from Louisiana so i can see if they are having any problems. It never use to be a like this for 3 years i had the service and now it is :(
this is not good thats all i got to say.
and for some reason its seeming laggy loading up a lot of web pages right now as we speak. even the home.excite.com page and i deleted my cache like i do ever day if no ever hour.

i guess i will have to go to a different isp maybe like a dsl isp or something

when the pings go up to 200 to 300ms thats everywhere not just the local severs and internet websites.

i tried to make sure it wasnt the internet but as you can see it isnt cause those severs are for @Home only

Although 140K/sec is a bummer compared to 280, they can't do much for that, but they will definately act if the best you can get anywhere is 25-35. The main thing is to find out if this is just you or others as well. If a tech brings up your modem in the Matrix when you are getting these lousy speeds, chances are something will be off. Then they can check other people on your node to see if they are having the same issues at those times.
I guess what it comes down to is if you like the cable, then be persistent and it will eventually get fixed. Intermitent problems can be hard to remedy, but they tend to be good about crediting your account for the time it is having issues.
