@home plz help

Post by nuttz »

i live in new orleans, louisiana

my @home was fantastic until about 2 months ago when from almost exactly 8 pm until 12 pm my latency goes SKY HIGH. Its like clockwork too, every single day, so i know something is wrong. At first i thought it was just because that was the busy times. Cant be, because its always the EXACT same time with the increase (8pm) and decrease (12pm).

Someone, Anyone plz help!!!
tell me if you are experiencing this or if you have some insight into this problem!

hey coon ass welcome to speed guide

one of your cajun neighbors was having the same thing about a week or so ago here is the thread

https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... light=coon

i am the rodrod5 in there starting on like the third page

hope this helps you out my good cajun neighbor
and i must say if it is a problem like you say ...it might take time to sort it out , but i think i would wait it out and try to get credit if it is an @Home problem
DSL will not even have you set up before @Home has it solved if it is a network problem... but it could get worse before better, but i would say wait it out when it gets solved it will be better than ever

try the trouble shooting steps in the above link and post the results maybe there is help ok it could be a problem that can be solved with a truck roll/trouble call

maybe it is not a network problem?? if it is it will take time to work out

nuttz hey i have the same problem too.
i think we should call a lot at the same time. i wouldnt mine to because @Home needs to give the service back we use to have where it would never slow down.

thanks

im sorry to hear that it is more than just myself experiencing this problem, but im happy to know that its just not to my house. Im gonna try the link posted by rodrod, and if it doest work, blah.

i have sent them numerous emails (after finding out about the increase in price), but have only received back "we have installed cutting-edge technology and you service is better than ever".

well, not my service!

i will definitely start calling them tho, so i suggest you do the same. i also have alot of others starting to call!!!

well i just read the whole posts from the ones you listed "Cowboy" and i must say, it didnt help a bit. I have two computers. i use win98se for gaming and a win2k box for work/dl's. i just recently installed the win2k on that box, latency is terrible during the "window time" connected directly into the modem. i reformat my win98se machine bout once/month to keep it running smoothly (mr gates would be oso proud), connect it directly to the modem, with and without a "speed patch" and BAM, same **** diff day (as we coon ass ppl say :) )

so now, where do i stand. On one hand, a great service that has the potential to be back the way it was, OR a great service that somewhere "upgraded to cutting-edge technology" wants to charge me more money and somehow, my line is all screwed now.

did others benefit in my peril? i think somehow they did. where exactly around do you live imtim83? maybe you are close to me and its just in our area. i live near the palace. if not, then its widespread and geeze, thats real lovely.

all in all, i appreciate the response cowboy, because it seems like you know a bit about networking (do you work for @home?) and seem to want us to keep this pos service. and i agree with you, it was a stellar service, but now its sub par. and if they want me to keep this, they desperately need a hole in one quick!

dl's are fine, latency sucks ****...i need latency

if i get some replies, ill post the email they sent me, its humerous in the details that they have upgraded and have diluted my concerned sentiment with a mere "I would like to
extend our apologies to you in regards to the issues that you may have experienced..."

thx for you time both cowboy and imtim83, any further response would be greatly appreciated.

hate to tell you you need to call into support and start logging the ticket

you need to do the pings ect.. and have the trace routes ect to email to the tech ect

as i told imtim83 if you are a coon ass then you got manners
i know it will be hard , but if you are cool and work with them you can keep your ticket open and get off the phone fast and not have to put up with the Bullsh*t each time as we rednecks say

i would stick it out i have seen these same issues come up in the sacaremento california area and in the missouri area as well it took time to resolve, but after it was resolved the people in those areas were very happy :)

if @Home cannot get it better just try to get credits till it is better
if they cant prove fault on your machine and will not send out a tech/or the tech has the same issue then they know what is up and will give in and give credits

if i was you and imtim83 live close then i would swap emails and team up on them

if you have a SOLID KNOWN BETTER CHOICE you might think about switching, but i would personally stick it out especially if getting credits, but hey that is be a dumba*ss redneck from TEXAS what do i know????

any other questions just ask coon ass

nuttz i have ticket logged so thats good and i will keep making that ticket longer if it isnt fixed. Hey its just about 6 pm right now did your pings go up any ? even alittle ?
and did you do a tracert of some of like local @Home severs like mail and www (which is home.exicite.com)
and btw what is your normal everyday download rate ? curious
cause i do have problems with my download rate going low during those times too :(
i can notice it for sure and i do want it fix as soon or possible cause paying $5 more in july will not make me happy with this kind of service for sure.
And no i do not work for @home but i do call them a lot cause i want my speed!!! all the time.

And i was wondering do you ever get like where you got to click links more than once or reclick the enter button after you type a url in for it to go thru and load up ? Because that seems to happen sometimes a lot and i was wondering if it was just me or @Home. think its @Home

I hope we can get lots of people to call in if they dont fix it we will cancel our service. Because losing a lot of people will hurt them for sure.

Thanks

yeah, usually the way i keep in touch with my latency is by pinging www in dos pretty constantly. current time is 6 pm, and im still ok so far. goes bad bout 8 pm sharp. i also use another program called virtual route, similar to a tracert but gives a bit more information, so i can see exactly where the problem is. i will compile data from both times good and bad and email them asap, like tonight. my downloads are pretty much the same all day tho, with a minor drop during the bad times. fastest ive ever gotten was 350k.

be careful tho, pinging www actually shoots you to california. the problem lies way before you get to that point. ill post the data once my line goes sour tonight so you can see

ok thanks
but what is your average download rate ? like in kilo bytes per a sec.

and too bad they wont raise the upload speed cap some since we will be paying $5 more starting in july maybe we all should complain about that too!
hehe

nuttz i get just as bad plus packet loss i think sometimes.
nuttz but my pings do go up into the 200s and i seen them go up into the 300s :(
highest was 895 ms i think once i seen
i called @Home yesterday night around 7pm and 8:50 pm the one at 8:50 pm sounded a lot better the tech.
i went to level 2 tech suppot cause i have a ticket # and i them to just keep logging it. Something which was funny is i ask her (level 2 tech support) if it will be fixed and what if its not. And she said it will be fixed because she passed it on to her supervisor and not with the fools i think she said over the phone. But she said it would take 24 to 48 hours for them to look into them problem. And i asked her if there is for sure a problem and she said yes.
i was telling her i knew someone else around this area that was having the same problem too. Also she got some information off
the netdiag thing you get with @Home software but i got it separately because i dont want all that software. But i had to connect thru it so she could do some kind of test. Seem like she knew what she was doing and i hope she did. My download speeds were bad also last night like 50 to 60 KB/sec which i tried on their sever where you download the software at just to test it out.

I do know this show InFous comes on channel 10 today live at 5:30 pm i think. could be 5 or 6 pm but not postive. But its another good place to call since its a show locally with local help. Those people also seem to want to help on that show.
I wish we had local tech support but we really dont.

ok well i hope this gets fixed because we need our speed back for what we are paying for and we really need it back in july because we will be paying $5 more :(
which they should raise the upload for that $5 more we got to pay hehe but i guess they wont

ok well i will be online today and checking it a lot and level 2 tech support person i was talking to post to call back at 7:30 pm.

Thanks

oh, i recently found some information out, dont know how true it is yet but here it is...

a tech went to a friends house of one of my friends. the tech told him that cox is now reaching 230,000 users. alot eh? anyway, if you average that many users with roughly 40/month, thats 9,200,000 dollars/year, roughyly anyway. thats just an interesting tidbit there, here is the kicker...

the tech also told him that our location only has like 3 nodes, 1 in harahan and like 2 in metarie, while baton rouge has 15. dont know the validity of that BUT, does sound like we are really getting cheated.

anyway, heh
