After waiting about 20 minutes to connect... I finally got connected... but then my screen flashed and I got that image I posted above. My mouse wouldn't move from the top! I was hearing sound affects about terrorists or something.
I just installed it... first time trying to use it... Why am I having this problem!?!?

Ajax, the reason you took 20 minutes to connect was CS was downloading a map you didn't have on your system. FYI the downloads this way, even with a broadband connection take way too long. Go to fileplanet or someplace and get them there instead, before you get on the server. It is a lot faster. But you may also need to update your install of HalfLife/CS. Did you make sure you got the latest update to the game? They update it fairly regularly (6 months or so). Updates are also on FilePlanet and valve's site and many other places too.
The reason you were hearing sounds is things are announced during the game "Terrorists win" or "Counter-Terrorists win". So that means in some way you were connected to the server. If your video card is a problem, I am less knowledgable about that, but if you can play either HalfLife or CounterStrike single player or create a lan with room for one to test your PCs ability to run the game, then you shouldn't have a problem on a server. If you can play on your machine, I would try going to another server. One that has a map that you already have like de_dust or italy. You can see a list of what you have when we create a Lan game.
CS is a great game if only because so many people are into it.

Hi. You can always try to reinstall it. Whenever something doesn't work for me, I just reinstall it and usually works after that. CS hasn't given me much problems. Make sure you meet the requirements to play the game.
Yes you were downloading a map... and it does take forever
I suggest putting the rendering mode in openGL @ 640x480 and work your way up until you get poor frame rates
Once in a game open the console with ~ and type in cl_showfps 1
Then in the top left corner you will see your framerate.
Then if it appears to be hitting one number and not going any higher type in the console fps_max <number> without the <>
Just mess around with it until your happy.
Dont set a insane value because that makes your system work harder trying to get there.
I would also go into your control panel and into sound/multimedia and turn down your hardware acceleration for sounds to about midway or lower. This can greatly boost performance.

I just checked your profile and if you are using the 500 celey that is more than plenty of CPU for this game.
YOu can only get it if you have AOL, you have to get it from a certain chat room and its too complicated to say, plus its like 500 megs or some crap. For once its nice to have aol.... (i dont sign onto that sh*t i just pay $10 a month for byoi)
So, the only place ive seen it is on AOl cervers.
Um, lol... it uses 8MB of my systems RAM... I need to buy a video card with its own RAM! At least 64MB! Maybe I could allocate atleast 32MB to my vid card? (Sucking my system's RAM... I know.. but what's the difference between 128 [minus 8, cuz of video card] and 96MB RAM on Windows 98 SE?? Hmm... anyway... thanks for the info.. Game worked before.. but I got in a server with NO PLAYERS at all.. I was just shooting boxes and stuff... pretty cool.. NOT! I want to shoot people and stuff! Can't get in cuz I have no password or anything... ???? Thanks again... later.

you dont even need that good of a video card for CS, a few months ago, before i got my comp upgraded, i was playing on a P2 233, 64MB, with some ****ty video card i forget what it was, and it was fine. but obviously a good card helps.
