Certain websites not working for some reason...
FOr some strange reason, these sites have stopped working on my comp..http://www.ew.com(entertainment weekly)http://www.microsoft.com, and http://www.nvidia.com,I know they're not down, because I share the DSL connection and they work fine on my sisters laptop...Anyone have any ideas?

Have you messed with your hosts files? Like r u using any kind of web accelerator? Do these sites need updated cookies?
I noticed that http://www.microsoft.com put a /ms.htm after the url
Just a thought cause it's bit me in the ass before.

Hmmm, I dunno if I messed around with any of the files...the version of IE is 5.5 with Service Pack and all the security updates. I can't repair it because it doesn't show up in the add/remove program section. Thanks for the replies so far but since I'm not very good with Internet settings, I'm not sure what I should do?Anyone else have a detailed solution?

IT goes to Microsoft just fine with ip but the address bar shows this http://207.46.230.218/ms.htm,added the ms.htm automatically
Maybe your host file is blocking access to it.. Go to C:/Windows/ and locate your Hosts file. It's not Hosts.sam, just hosts. Open it with Notepad and look to see if the sites you cannot reach are in there... if so, just remove them from there and you should be able to access those sites. Let me know if this helped or not.
<sarcastic>um... yeah</sarcastic>

first you NEED to hook your computer DIRECTLY into the MODEM WITHOUT ANY HUB,SWITCH,ROUTER ECT... try to go to the sites
if no
then you need to go to start->settings->control panel double click on internet options then hit the tab at the top that says connections then click the button on the bottom left that says lan settings when it pop up you need to blank out ALL the areas and uncheck ALL of the check boxes ok out of all that and try again
then go see if any of the LAN SETTINGS have become re-entered
if so you need to blank them out and uncheck everything then DO NOT hit ok , but go down to start->run and in run type in regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll hit ok and it should say success and then ok out of the lan settings and try to open a page
if still no page then uninstall all virus and firewall completely
you need to also go to start -> run then type in "msconfig" and hit ok then click on the tab at the top that says start up and then uncheck EVERYTHING in there EXCEPT for SYSTEM TRAY hit ok at the bottom it will ask to restart.... restart and try again
can you ping both of your dns servers??
if yes are you set static or dynamic? try the opposite configuration
if still no page then you need to clean out your network stack of any and all vpn, ipx/spx,netbeui,aol adapters...then remove and reinstall the tcp/ip and client for ms networks for your nic if you get a version conflict during this process say NO to all of them..
if no page you need to remove and reinstall the drivers for your nic
