Where do you guys get your mp3s?

Post by jayyy »

Wow, winmx has really gone to pot since napster died. I can only connect to one of the servers on the list. Where are all the mp3s?
Funny is when a fat lady walks around while someone plays the tuba. Once you've seen that, you'll never laugh at anything else. Except maybe a skeleton dancing around while someone plays the xylophone, which is almost exactly the opposite of a fat lady walking around while someone plays the tuba. Well, a skeleton is the opposite of a fat lady. But is a xylophone the opposite of a tuba? History will decide.

Thanks for the gnotella link. I have used WinMX and bearshare but didn't like either too much. I will try this one out :)

wow, kazaa and musiccity seem to have the exact same interface...

these other file-sharers worked great when nap was still up and they could leech off napster and opennap servers. Now that they're gone they're close to useless.

If you notice, when you first fire up Morpheus from Music City, you'll see a quick flash of the word kazaa. I think it's the same proggy with a little bit of undiscernable difference. ;)

Have you checked out the newsgroups?

Do a search within your newsgroup proggy for mp3.

You don't get to search for what you want but sometimes you find a real jewel you wouldn't find on Napster or the others.

You must not have downloaded WinMX 2.6!

They have a new p2p system set up so you don't need the musiccity servers anymore.

Give it a try. I think it's the best out there, by far, now.

Still a bit buggy, but it's getting close to being great.

i use music city, and audiognome, and galaxy. to be truthful i don't download mp3's much anymore, and like you said, winmx sucks now. i usually borrow cd's from a friend or this guy from the local radio station :D , then i make mp3's. that is one of my many little secrets to getting mp3's.

Kazaa and Morpheus are the same exact program, the difference being that Morpheus is on a larger network than Kazaa, so having Kazaa and Morpheus on the same computer is pointless.

Why do you saw WinMX sucks? Have you tried 2.6 yet with their peer system? If not, give that a try. Interface is a little easier now too.

If you don't like 2.6, I'd be pretty surprised and curious why?

Have you guys checked you systems for spyware, most of these programs come with spyware. If not get Ad-Aware and do so, http://www.lavasoft.de/ Some of these program won't run without it some will. If you uninstall them the spyware stays behind to keep spying.

The new WinMX rules. :D

Jayyy, I'm subscribed to the 60's 70's, 80', and sounds.mp3.bootlegs. However there are a ton of different catagories. Spoken Word, Books, Gothic, ect ect..

I usually only check on the bootleg one.

If you do a search for mp3 in your newsgroup reader, you'll get a slug of choices.

One other thing, your at the mercy of what people will upload to whatever newsgroup they post to.

So it takes a little work to find things. Still, every now and then I find a jewel in the bootleg group that I've never seen on PtoP's.

One other thing about binary newsgroups, they can be somewhat a pain to use at first. If you decide to check them out and need a hand, get ahold of me. I'd be glad to help.

I have used the new WinMX and I like it too. Napster was coming up dry and WinMX was finding what I needed. Seemed slower than Napster though

i shouldn't say it sucks, because it has helped me out alot in the past, but like i said i hardly ever download mp3's much anymore, i just borrow cd's and rip them when i need them. i will try 2.6 when i get back to downloading mp3's, thanks for the suggestion. :)

haha, IRC is good, but too much trouble for me. I either use Limewire or WinMX or other Napster interface like software. Otherwise, I rather not listen to any :D :D

Yes... IRC is the best for me. The problem I have with the p2p proggies is that searches take ages, and by the time I get a result, the person is offline and end up with 1/2 a song. With IRC, I go from search to d/l in 20-30 seconds, and most users have 20,000+ cps uploads. #mp3z, #mp3s, #cablemp3 on irc.dal.net are the places i've had the most luck.

What is IRC? I just DL'd Direct Connect last night and so far I love it! I don't know the URL (sorry, not at home right now) but it is a great program! If anyone has the URL, please post it so others can take advantage of this great program.
