Ping times

Post by Voodoovoid »

Before I formatted, my ping times on a local server I used to go on (to play half-life counter-strike) used to be 30, but now it's 60! I know they haven't changed aything because my friend that used to go on there, and he hasn't formatted his HD, still pings the same. Is there something I can do to reduce my ping times or is there something I didn't/did to to raise my ping.

Athlon 700
128 MB Ram
3Com cable modem/Road Runner
TCP options string = 020405b4010303030101080a000000000000000001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1448, which is less than MSS because of Timestamps, or other TCP/IP options used.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 373360
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 46670
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 14934.4 kbps (1866.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5973.76 kbps (746.72 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 19 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Note: Timestamps add 12 bytes to the TCP header of each packet, reducing the space available for useful data.

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Go to www.dslreports.com/tools and take tweak test, it will tell you what your pings are, turn off firewalls or no pings, read what it says about pings and games :)

Well you may go to www.pcpitstop.com as they have ping tester there and other tests, maybe they have fix I don't know :confused:

TRy changing your rwin to one that is suggested and Change your Tcp1323Opts to 1 instead of three. This may help. ;)

To bad games don't use TCP1323Opts or Recieve Windows their UDP which is a whole other game folks.
