Below are are my default readings and settings:

Image

Image

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MS

SOther values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 112 hopsTTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

104820 connections tested since 03.10.2001.
Analyzer version: Beta 0.94

-----------------------

Made the following changes below:
  1. EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
  2. GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize = 513920 (some speed increase w/256960)
  3. SackOpts = 1
  4. Tcp13230pts = 1
  5. TcpWindowSize = 513920 (some speed increase w/256960)
  6. MacConnectionPer1_0Server = 20
  7. MaxConnectionPerServe r= 20
  8. DefaultTTL = 64
    [/list=a]

New readings below (after above tweaks):

    Analyzer version: Beta 0.94

After tweaks I downloaded 22.3MB from the Netscape site in 38secs (default settings = 43secs) @ 603KB/s (default settings 533KB/sec)

Is there anything else that I can do to increase the cable performance?

Need to eventually find balanced settings for cable and ADSL when I hook up to the Nexland 800turbo. What would be the best tweaks for more efficient load balancing?

Is the SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer capable of analyzing dual broadband connections?

As for ADSL with default settings it took 2mins 24 secs. to download 22.3MB Netscape Communitor at 159KB/sec. Have not tested ADSL with the tweaked settings.

    Thanks

Help!

  • EnablePMTUDiscovery=1
  • GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize= 513920
  • SackOpts=1
  • Tcp13230pts=1
  • TcpWindowSize=513920
  • MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server=20
  • MaxConnectionsPerServer=20
  • DefaultTTL=64

So far the above, RWIN settings at 513920, is about the best tweak for my W2K configuration (Speed Guide manual W2k tweak).

With the Kingston KNE30T, I was clocking 38secs for a 22.3MB download.

However, with the same tweak, above, I am clocking between 40-41secs with the Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter. I tested with the 22.3MB downloads 3 times today. I was expecting better performance with the PRO/100+. What happened? Is that possible?

Or is there something that I am missing here?

With the following:
  • MaxConnectionPre1_0Server = 32
  • MaxConnectionPerServer = 32
which is an increment of 12, my download time for the 22.3MB increased to 48secs (w/Intel Pro) (sguide_webtweak_2k.zip).

Increasing the RWIN any higher than 513920, will only retard the download speed.

Is it a normal occurrence that when you change the network adapter SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer readings automatically changes, as mine did when I switched to the Intel® PRO/100+

Can anyone help me figure this out, what are some possible options available to increase the performance further?

That is plain sick. I would kill for speeds like that. I am stuck with poopie charter at 512kilobit connection. Can I live at your house? Heh jk nice speeds though

Thanks, jarablue, I have just been using cable for about a month or so. It appears that cable seems to be faster in my area, Connecticut. Been using ADSL, much longer.

Once my router gets here at the end of April, I shall save a connection for u :D It would seem that cable length does not impede on the performance, as I have a 100 foot roll under my table (deciding on best basement routing before the drilling begins). I just hope that in 2 years time the cable bandwidth will not be too over saturated.

Broadband,

Try turning off Adaptive Technology in your Intel nic's driver settings. If you have not updateded your driver yet I highly suggest doing so the new 5.0 Release improves performance over the default PnP driver in Windows 2000.

Stamford/Optonline, STEVENPRO.
  • Adaptive Technology = OFF
  • Downloaded 100PDISK.EXE & installed driver release 5.0 version 5.40.11.0
Thanks for the tip, cablenut! Do you also have the Intel PILA8460 adapter; as there is a bunch of tweaks/selections and I was wondering if you have configured your card for optimum performance?

Thanks! :)

After several downloads attempts at various hours, I’ve established that it may not be the Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter that is slowing down the download speed.

At 7:22 AM and 8:44 AM the download speed with the Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter was 38secs for 22.3MB.

The earlier reported slow downs could very well be due to traffic and congestion.
