Which TCP Registry keys ?

Post by bglspeed »

Which registry keys are realy considered in configuring TCP settings is the subjet of my intervention. I use 3 tweaking programs, "EasyMTU v3" (1999), "ISpeed v2.8.0.158" (2001) and "SpeedTec v2.1 (DUN1.3)" (1999) (not very much). I used all three with RegMon in order to see which registry setting are red and written to for tweaking. It appears that all is set in two registry keys, that is: [ ]\Class\NetTrans\0004\ and [ ]\VxD\MSTCP\, where [ ] = HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services, and 4 in 0004 is the nb. of my DUN1.3 adapter. I use W95OSR2 and Winsocket 2.2. It is also said that all settings under [ ]\Class\NetTrans\000x\ are adapter specific, and settings under [ ]\VxD\MSTCP\ are global to all adapters. I also noted when I updated to DUN1.3 that a new subkey was added (and shurely taken in account) in [ ]\Class\NetTrans\0004\ key, that is IPMTU, in addition of the pre-existing on: MaxMTU. In this context, which one of the two is realy taken in account for in configuring TCP settings ? ISpeed does read/write both of them so, every situations are covered. On the other hand, the other two programs read/write only MaxMTU and not IPMTU. So what give ?
In the same trend, where is the MSS setting fetched from for the TCP configuration ? EasyMTU does read/write the 0004\MaxMSS subkey, and the other two programs read/write the MSTCP\DefaultMSS subkey. So, in absract:

...........ISpeed...........EasyMTU............SpeedTec
...........====...........======...........======
MTU:.....IPMTU............MaxMTU............MaxMTU
...........MaxMTU
MSS:....DefaultMSS......MaxMSS.............DefaultMSS

So, tell me, which registry subkeys are realy taken in account for configuring TCP settings ? :confused:
