Tweaking My System

Post by kerplunk »

Hello, I own a Compaq Presario 7970 computer:

700 MHz AMD K7 Athlon
128 MB of RAM
40 GB of hard drive

I run Windows 2000 Professional and I have a cable modem hosted at mncable.net.

I have installed all the tweaks here at speedguide.net and the speedcorp.net enhancer, and I was wondering if there is anything I could do to make my connection faster.

I currently download at about 50 KB/sec and upload at about 9 KB/sec. My ISP says I am capped at 500k download and 100k upload.

Here is my test results:

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 111 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I would like to upload at 12.5 KB/sec (100k) and download at 62.5 KB/sec (500k) all the time. Thank you.

I know a tweak master like lobo although im trying but to me it looks liek your RWIN is toooo low. If you installed all these guys patches it would be higher. Might wanan recheck that.

Go here and see if Tcp1323Opts is set to 1 in your registry, it tells you how, if it is then the patch is not installed :)

Nope the patch did not install

Heres a trick reinstall the patch..
Win2k has to export the setting into the Control001 and Control002 if it dosnt do it on reboot then reboot till it works I have seen this happen as many as three reboots on win2k
You gonna have to run the tweak test a few time to chk..
