Internet Sharing Router? Plz help

Post by HongKongPolice »

Ok i know this has been asked 2 billion times, but which router is the best? Besides the Cisco routers which cost a few grand.

Every1 seems to recommend the NetGear 4 port router, and I have a NetGear switch so it seems to go together, but are there any better ones? The 3Com home gateway only costs $199 Canadian which is about the same price as the NetGear. I know 3Com NIC's are better than NetGear's but how bout their routers?

Thx

Ive only seen a few of the 3com routers, they seem to work great. i personally have the netgear rt314. which hasnt had a single problem, and ive beaten the poor thing without mercy. either one i think is just as good to buy. if you feel more comfortable with a big name like 3com, then go for it.

The NetGear RT314 that I had ran like a champ for 3 months. One of the faster ones too. Stick with NetGear if you have a switch already. Of course, the RT314 has a built in 4-port 10/100 switch, they have an RT311 that just has an uplink.

Assuming you're talking about Cable/DSL router, right? Cuz the Cisco models for that are only 400 - 700 bucks, not a few grand.

One work for you, do you plan on hosting a game server? If so, NetGear does have some kicking issues with UT based games, so does Linksys, and so do just about every router that is under 200 bucks. In which case I would recommend a Netopia, I haven't read about the 3COM with game servers.
