Internet problem on 4 comp network!!! HELP!

Post by Mo125 »

Help! I am having this really annoying problem and it is really getting on my nerves. I have a cable modem with one static IP address shared on a 4 computer network by the linksys 4-port router/switch and another 8-port switch that is uplinked to it. What has been happening for about the last month is that the internet is constantly "phasing" out, usuallly for about a few seconds but sometimes for quite a few minutes. The internet stops functioning on all the computers on the network (any downloads at that time are interrupted and AOL Instant Messenger closes). This happens evers couple minutes and is getting reallly annoying. I thought it may have been the router since only the internet is affected (no other network activity is halted) and it occurs to all the computers on the network, but after replacing the linksys router/switch, the problem continued. This leaves me to wonder if it is the modem itself causing the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know anything about a problem like this and have a solution for it? Thanks.

I tried today, and the connection went out after 27 minutes, so, yes, it does occur when the modem is connected to one computer. I assume something is wrong with the modem then.

if it's doing it on just the one computer it sounds like it could be the modem is losing connection ask for a new one. also run winipcfg and see how long they "lease" the ip for if it's 30 min or something that may be it as well as its' releasing the ip and may be changing the ip in the middle of you being on and then your picking up the ip or new one again a few min later. if it is ask them what's up with that.
