Need router suggestion
Need router suggestion
My buddy is going to be upgrading his router (Frontier Fiber ISP). There is just him and his wife and they are not power users and do not consume a lot of bandwidth. But I'm afraid a router with any in depth setup might confuse them. What's a good solid router with even possibly wifi 7? The don't need any overkill, but future proof for a while and a solid, easy to use and setup router?
Re: Need router suggestion
TP-Link Deco (WiFi 6 nodes) are easy to setup and inexpensive, they are sold online and everywhere from electronics stores like Best Buy to Costco and Home Depot, the only downside being the US Government is considering sanctions against TP-Link.
For under $200, I would still consider Asus RT-AX86U Pro. No WiFi 7, but solid hardware and firmware, and you don't have many clients utilizing the 6GHz band anyway, it is mostly used for backhaul between mesh nodes.
Most ISP modems are actually gateways that include NAT routing features. This means you can set your WiFi router to "Access Point" mode, and let the Frontier modem deal with NAT, DHCP IP addresses, firewall settings, etc. In AP mode, the Asus router has no complicated menus, setup is just a few clicks.
