About 2 weeks ago a guest at our house wasn't able to log on to our guest account from their Apple phone. I couldn't understand why. We tried using one of the other Guest accounts including the Main wireless account. We kept getting that the PWD was incorrect. But here's the thing, we currently have several devices using the exact wireless network and password. So I know I wasn't inputting a bad PWD incorrectly. I was unable to resolve the "no" connect issue and decided it was just some weird anomaly that was specific to their phone.
Yesterday we had 2 relatives over and when I went to give them the wireless login information they ended up being blocked too. So now I decide to do a deep dive and find out what's going on. I removed the account from my phone and when I tried to log back into the account I had just left I was told that I did not have the correct PWD. I was able to access the web via my PC but I was being block to every wireless account.
I spent the next 2 hours trying to get back into the router's GUI. After 2 resets and a very painful setup process via my phone I was still having problems until I found one of the setting on my phone to allow my PC access to the GUI/Setup screen. This was one of the most painful processes I have had with a router. I had tried so many things that I lost track of everything I had tried. At first all I was trying to do was to log into the GUI so I could Restore the settings via a backup I have. I never had anything like this with my last 2 ASUS routers. I could wipe them clean and reset virtually anything within minutes. What I don't understand was that I had reset the TP Link router and tried walking trough the same steps as I had when I first got it. For a time I was literally following the manual step by step.
Everything is now good, but as soon as I get a little cash together this thing is going bye bye.
This is the last TP-Link Router I'll ever own
Re: This is the last TP-Link Router I'll ever own
Figured this out. For some reason "Access Control" was enabled and was only granted to my PC. Once disabled everything works as expected. I still remember seeing more devices in this list though. After enabling / disabling it a couple of times all the connected devices are now show in the allowed list. I don't know who this got turned off in the first place but it's working now.
Re: This is the last TP-Link Router I'll ever own
Sounds frustrating. I don't like some of the newer routers' interfaces that have been simplified for phone/app setup and use either. I don't use Access Lists though, with the limited range and firmware updates I am not worried much of neighboring kids breaking into the router and using my Wi-Fi, heh.
