Sharing DSL

Post by TooL »

I have a quick question..... My friend is a novice when it comes to computers and he just got DSL.... only thing is.. he swears it is connected via his USB port....

He is trying to share his connection with his roomate but I am not sure how to tell him to go about it.... never dealt with a USB networking device before.

He probably has a USB to ethernet adapter. If this is so, he needs to set up a small network, with a hub or switch, to share the DSL. After that, he has to ge another IP address, or set up a simple proxy server on one of the computers. I've never heard of a DSL modem/adapter that connected directly to a USB port, but I suppose it's possible.

I'm a network administrator and had no idea they have USB/Ethernet adapters... Did a search though, and for the price of that adapter you can get a decent Ethernet card. Who would run Ethernet through a USB port? Anybody know the speed? Bastardization is what I call it... :-)
