Gigabit Network Tweaking...need suggestions

Post by SCORPION6969 »

I have a Gigabit Network...Computers>Gigabit Switch>Cisco 2620xm Router

(Jumbo Frames enabled)

I have ALL Intel Gigabit Adapters I350T2V2

I know the TCPOptimizer is for tweaking to the internet...

But do any of these "tweaks" apply to a network??

What a reason you use the Jumbo frames?

Yes, some of the tweaks apply to LANs as well. If you'd like to expand beyond what the Optimizer covers for LANs, you may also want to check this article: http://www.speedguide.net/articles/netw ... ation-3449

Vadi, jumbo frames are very useful in Gigabit networks for reducing TCP/IP overhead and CPU utilization on switches/routers, they often double the throughput and halve the CPU utilization when you transfer large files locally.

ok and what's happened when you try to transfer large files to Internet?
Router's CPU is trying to cut big frames and it takes all of your CPU?

Or you know some ISPs who works with jumbo frame?

Yes, some fragmentation of frames occurs when communicating over the Internet, but most modern routers should be able to deal with it without issues. DSL MTU (1492 max) is often different than LAN MTU (1500 bytes) as well.
