sudden increase of line attenuation after router change

Post by nimalj22 »

hi,

I have been using a Dlink DSL 2750U wireless router with dlink my line attenuation was around 42dB
then i switched to linksys WAG54G2 then my line attenuation was around 15dB.

these are the values with linksys

--- DSL Information ---
DSL Driver Version: E.25.41.39
DSL VPI/VCI: 8/35
DSL Status: Showtime
DSL Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Channel: 64
DSL Upstream Rate: 1023900
DSL Downstream Rate: 6393300

Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 21.0 dB 47.0 dB
DSL Attenuation: 13.5 dB 8.40 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 19.8 dBm 12.3 dBm

is this possible, can this be a faulty reading of the linksys router? please help me with this matter.
thank you

Lower downstream line attenuation is better, below 20 dB is great, 20-45 dB is normal.

Thank you Philip, what Im wondering about is, this sudden decrease in line attenuation. with the Dlink router it was around 42dB, but when i Switched to the Linksys its around 15dB.
is this even possible? may be my linksys is showing a wrong line attenuation
Im nerly 3.5km from the telephone exchange so how is this possible?

It could be better shielding, another standard (ADSL vs. ADSL+, etc.), different sync speed, etc. I am not sure myself.
