Old Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer (65831) that I'm trying to replace the thermal fuse on.
I've seen some videos that show removing the back panel and exhaust vent, and the thermal switch being accessible there.
I'm guessing these are older models.
Also seen videos in which the front panel is removed, the belt taken off, drum removed, to access the thermal fuse on the inside.
I'm guessing these are newer models.
Anyone here have experience with this?
Took all the screws off the back panel this morning but the back is still on there really good (had to go to work).
Will try again tonight, just wanted to see if you guys have any ideas.
The dryer was working fine until it shut off in the first 20 muntes of a cycle and it won't turn back on.
Thanks
Any dryer gurus around?
Thank you Rainbow.Rainbow wrote:Pop top up, remove 2 or 4 screws and take front off. Remove belt and lift drum out. You'll have full access to everything.
The videos seem pretty straight-forward.
How do I know that this isn't one of the back access models though (have seen videos of both but no indication if one style is newer or older)?
Thanks again.

You will know as soon as you take a screwdriver and pop the front up. If it is meant to be rear access the top won't come up, It will be screwed down.
Look on the back at the top. Do you see what looks like hinges on both sides? The front pops up and will open 90 degrees on those hinges. If you see hinges that is a dead giveaway.
If you have a top lint screen there will be 1 screw there you will have to remove before the top goes up.

Google the model number for your machine or insert number here

Your link (thank you) doesn't find anything.
It's a Kenmore brand, but to my knowledge has always been made by Whirlpool.
Waiting for the part to come in, just don't want to take the wrong half apart
