DHCP problems on wingate

Post by Mo125 »

Help! I am having a ton of trouble sharing my internet connection over a Linksys 10M phoneline network. I am trying to use wingate to do it and I am getting the following error:

"This service will not operate. There are no private address interfaces bound to this service, and public address allocation is denied. You may need to renumber your network."

Wingate says this as a solution:

"The DHCP service has not been bound to any interfaces on your system that use a private IP address.A Private IP address is a special address reserved for use on private networks, and cannot be used on the internet. It is strongly recommended that you use private addresses on your network. The DHCP service in WinGate will allocate IP addresses based on the IP address of the network adapter on your WinGate machine."

I don't understand a lot of these technical network terms, so if anyon eout there knows how to fix this problem, please help! Thanks a lot.

if you have only one ip address then the other machines you are trying to connect to the internet have to go through the machine with the address that works on the internet. i would set up your internal machines with static ip addresses with the range of 10.10.10.1 and so on. you must have a hub, switch, router, or three nic cards to share the connection. if you are running windows try using ics aka internet connection sharing, im not familiar with wingate. or if you have win2k then use NAT. if you have any questions email me at xported@home.com
