got the killer "world class" tattoo from a master world class artist on Friday NWS

Post by Dan »

I went to this show on Friday http://www.bodyartexpo.com/MAIN.PHP in San Fransisco ,it was an 8 hour "one shot" session completed tattoo on my left side, from 2 pm to 10 pm,it's a tiger & a skull in black & gray, from my armpit to my hip,I can't take good pics until after Monday, they put some cool medical grade healing skin over my skin that stays on for 3 days,it's the same stuff they use for burn & other of that type of skin injuries.

anyway,I am super happy and really lucky to get this considering Jess Yen has a 3-4 year waiting list, this is the artist http://www.mytats.com/jess.htm , I got in on a fluke because he had a cancellation & a friend told me and I grabbed the day right away ! this was a chance of a lifetime.I'm super excited about this piece,

here is the original art, that he signed and gave me,no one else will have it (unless they copy it)
Image

here is the stencil, which you can see the rest of the piece, the moon, and skull,, there is grass at the bottom that can be seen around the feet & skull when I post pics of the tattoo.

it goes down to my butt cheek,so I kinda felt funny at first at this crowded convention with my butt hanging out for all to see ! LOL
it was the most excruciating mid evil torture type pain for 8 hours I have ever felt ! :D
I'll put up some better pics of the tattoo when it's healed

Dang man....8x hours ...pretty intense, looking at all those dark areas you musta been wincing quite a bit. At least able to have some shots of something every now 'n then while they punched away?

I can imagine the dark spots above its face....below your chest, and the dark areas atop your hip and public lines...yeouch man!

Looks like great work on the fur...how the gray hairs are shaded in. Nice.

Gonna get touchups for any secondary colors? Like the eyes and mouth?

it will look a lot better when it's healed,it was quite the experience,I have no regrets.

except that most of it was like I imagine mid evil torture was like ! lol

also, there is white highlights in the eyes, teeth, and some other spots, they will be seen when it heals.

I let the artist go with what he wanted,I knew what his specialties were,he asked for my height & pictures in order to custom draw it for my body 10 days ago.

Oh wow... that looks amazing!

I like tattoo pain... once I'm a half hour into it and the endorphins kick in :)

I've been thinking about getting the face of a lioness on my left shoulder, but I only want it done by someone with that kind of serious talent.

Interested to see how it'll look healed up. I skipped ahead to the pictures at first and was like woa thats messed up! Then saw the tape(or is that the skin stuff?) and read the text.

Thats a hell of a session to go through.

Curious Dan, how much did that run?
No need to answer of course, but showed this to a co-worker and she wondering...which got me wondering.

close ! it was $2500,

I know that's a lot,you will understand better when I post pics of it healed,

his large pieces usually start around $5000

it was actually worth more,he gave me a deal.

That is a lot of money...but given the caliber of his work, the time it took, and the joy you get from it I'd say it's worth every penny.
Certain part hurt more than the rest? Guessing closer to the pit is going to smart a bit.

ya,the tail & the moon hurt a lot,but that wasn't the worst,

the 2nd worst spot was on my stomach,

and THE most painful was actually the tiger's foot on the top of my butt cheek,OMG ! I don't know how people get their butts tattooed, that really hurt there.

the absolute worst was the last 3 hours when he did the shading & the white highlights(which you can't see yet) because it was going over already tattooed skin, WOW! that was some crazy mid evil torture ! unbelievable pain !

but like 9mm said,it's a weird kind of urge for that pain, and yes,I have some work planned next month in Kauai :D I seem to swear off ever getting another tattoo while I'm getting one,but as soon as it's done I want to get another one ! LOL

Decided I'm getting a tattoo in a week or two. It's been too long. I've been wanting a new one for a while - the lioness is going to have to wait, but I'm suddenly inspired. Usually I sit on a tattoo idea for a while, but I'm not going to this time, because I'm 100% sure I want it. Going to get "Revenant" on my inner forearm. Pics in a couple weeks after I've got it :)
