Hello networking experts,
My name is Apurva and I'm from India. I have a DSL connection with an Apple Time Capsule as the router.
My ISP is Airtel and I just got my connection upgraded from a 2 mbps connection to a 8 mbps connection.
My concern is that previously, I used to get 256 kbps as download speed while downloading torrents etc.
And after upgrading, the speed has only increased to 350 kbps. When I asked my ISP, they said that the speed will vary around 1 mbps.
On the first day I got my connection upgraded, I did get 850 - 1000 kbps download speed but that has decreased over the week.
I am running Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Please tell me as to what could be wrong with my connection.
The 1st thing I try when my internet speed decreases is unplug my modem and router for around 2-5 minutes so it can start up fresh. Also restart your computer. Check your speed and see if it improved any.
You can also directly connect your modem to your computer and check your speed. Sometimes routers can slow your connection, but unlikely if it's configured correctly.
Lastly if the wiring in your house is old, I would suggest replacing it.
Also the torrent may not have many seeders so it could be the reason it's slow.
