Hello, I have a WD 7200RPM 1TB drive with windows 7 64bit installed on it, the other day I went out and bought a Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD just the 128GB. I only want to use my games on this drive looking for faster load times in game etc. I set up my bios for AHCI and formated my SSD I then put the game installer on my F: which is now my SSD and installed the game on the SSD however it still seems when im playing the game the load times are still the same as when I had the game on the regular HDD can anyone please help. Thanks for your time
Also thinking of a new system build what do you guys think of this set up:
CPU: i7-3820
Mobo: Asus Rampage IV Formula
Ram: G. Skill 2x4gb ddr3 pc3 10666
GFX: Evga GTX 760 4GB
PS: SeaSonic X series X-850
well what i did was Uninstall the game from my WD drive then downloaded the installer of the game I play for instance GW2 then put the installer on my SSD then ran the installer and installed it to the F: which is my SSD. I don't have an OS on the SSD I was told I didnt need it if I was only using it for the games, not entirely sure how true that is, hoping to find out from you guys . I've always been lead into the right direction when coming here for advice. . My problem is the load times feel the same as they did when I had the game on my WD
Computer Setup:
CPU: i7 920 bloomfield
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813188046
Memory: DDR3 4x4GB G. Skills Ripjaw i looked up my motherboard and got the correct memory that was on the list.
GFX: Evga GeForce GTX 550 Ti
HDD: WD 7200RPM 1TB w/Windows 7 64bit
SSD: Samsung 840 PRO series 128GB No OS just fragmented and tweaked it a little for longer life etc. and installed my game Guild Wars 2 on this drive only.
PSU: Antec 750w 80 plus Bronze
*also i know my mobo only supports 3gb/s and the drive is 6gb/s but it stated it was compatible with the 3gb/s although i know itll bottle neck a little but im not sure if that plays a factor when the game is loading, i would like the loading screens to be faster as other people are loading a lot quicker than me with what seems worse hardware according to them.
Putting win8 on one drive and win7 on the other will only make your life more complicated, and needlessly at that.
I recently built myself a new main rig, fairly similar to yours storage-wise (Sammy 840 128GB and a WD 1GB "Black" HDD). However, my Steam folder, last I checked, is just shy of 340GB so using the SSD as that source was out of the question, which is why I used a "Black" series drive... very speedy but wallet-friendly. Still not anywhere near the throughput a SSD, or WD Raptors in striped RAID, but I had to come to terms with the fact I just can't justify the cost of either just to suit that requirement.
Anyways, if you only have a small handful of non-critical (i.e., not OS) apps/games that you need to load quickly, then install them on the SSD alongside your OS. Just be very selective about what you install on it addition to those.
^yea all that I have on the SSD is the one game, but no OS I'll have to order a new Windows 7 64bit because I can't find the one I have now think I left it at a friends.
...can pull the CD Key your computer claims ownership to from the registry. This app was very useful when I was dealing more with referrals years ago, as common folk seem to store the discs that came with their computer somewhere out there in the ether. There are other utils that do the same.
