I apologize for posting in the sticky thread.
Hello I'm sure its painfully obvious that I'm very green to all of this. I've done some reading and I gather that I need to get a program that will watch for a "four handed handshake" and then use another program to attack that... sentence? Problem is I'm using windows 7 *gasp* and I dont have a dvd burner or flash drive so I can use backtrack. Can any of you give me tips or a tutorial or programs to use to crack WPA/WPA2-PSK type encryption. and please talk to me like I am a 10 year old because techno jargon is sumerian to me.
If it matters one of the wireless networks in my area is still named "Netgear". But I've tried variations of "password" "Password" "Admin" "admin" but to no avail. I've downloaded "Elcomsoft Wireless Security Auditor". I set out using it but after about a day or so I decided I'd like to check to make sure it worked. So I connected a network extender to my apartments free wifi and chose a name off the top of Elcomsofts dictionary list. To my suprise it still read "Password has not been found. Please consider trying dictionaries or change password mutation options. Dumbfounded I double checked and then triple checked but it simply could not find the answer. It very well could be user error. It was the trial version if that makes a difference
If anyone has a tutorial I could read or even if you'd like to take the time to tell me what to use and how to do it I'd be very appreciative. It doesn't nessacarily need to be for Elcomsofts Wireless Auditor. However if you do know for a fact it works and would be so kind as to enlighten me on how to use it I would be most grateful.
Then again if you know of another way to do it I am certainly open to suggestions and am in no way adament about using WSA. I just need something that will work on windows and a tutorial.

WPA2 PSK (Windows 7) :(
I'd look into installing some Linux distro on a USB flash drive, it's a much better platform for this than Windows. Still, there is a Windows version of aircrack-ng available if you must go that way.
Have you read the article on the main site ? http://www.speedguide.net/articles/how- ... works-2724
You may want to try Reaver if the network has WPS enabled as well. Remember all this should be used for learning, rather than breaking into a wireless network ilegally.

I am looking into booting kali from a flash drive but I am seriously broke (so broke I may have to pawn my laptop for rent if I can't get this figured out by the months end). I think I may have something worked out for getting the flash drive then hopefully my laptops internal wifi adapter will be compatible. I have been reading about Reaver and Wash and it seems quick and easy (comparatively). I'm doing this to get a job checking the level of security for our clients. However it is a small company and my perspective employer will not advance me the cash for a Alfa wifi adapter or even a simple 2gb flash drive.
I have not read that article but I will as soon as I post this.
Thank you so much for your time Phillip I really appreciate it.
