Drove from vancouver, WA to Quesnel, BC and back.

Was a nice trip I got paid for.

Sweet. I used to make many long drives while in the Corps. My record was 2600 miles coast to coast in 47 hours. Me and 2 other Marines did it non-stop in my pickup. Had a mattress in back with a topper so someone was always sleeping. Corps gave us 5 days travel time so we got 3 freebies!

Glad your trip went safely. My problem with long drives used to be my eyes drying out. Longest drive was 42 hours straight from AZ to NC, and my eyes were bloody by the end of it.

The one thing that I do have to say about this trip is that everyone I met and asked questions was so nice, helpful and courtious.

Everytime I asked people for directions or for a place to go to find something they were awesome.

I was looking for some Labatts Blue beer in bottles since I had that once 20 years ago and wondered if it was good or if I was just drunk at the time and didn't care. Stopped at 2 stores and they told me that I needed to go to a BC liquor store to find it.

So I go there and there isn't any in sight. I ask this nice lady (a government worker) and she says hang on...comes back with a half rack in bottles.

Says hear ya go, last one.

I about kissed her.

I brought it home and going to have one tomorrow.

Long drives are fun.
My longest was LA to PA in 3 days by myself.
Longest stretch of that trip was from Tuscon to Knoxville - 54 hrs non-stop.
Got a bit east of Knoxville on route 40 and was admiring Mt. Rushmore in the distant horizon.
About 10 minutes later it dawned on me that Mt. Rushmore is not in Tennessee, yet there it was, clear as a bell and as real as the steering wheel.
Fortunately I had the sense to pull over and nap for a few hours. When I woke, it was gone.
I hope to one day take my time and drive to SD.

Can't do nonstop myself, there are laws.

Went from Merced to Harrisburg once, that was a nice trip.

went from la to killeen,tx loaded,then straight back to al and reloaded.got as far again as la.had to stop because of oversize load but covered 1608 mi.even as comfortable as a kenworth truck is i was tired.

Can't do much more than 400-500 miles a day anymore due to bad lower back. Have done a thousand miles a day in my younger years, probably doing so many of those in my old jeeps that got my back bad in the first place.

I bought a cj7 new in 79. Beat the crap out of it & it beat the crap out of me too.

Yeah they're rough....back with the old leaf spring models. Had mine up to Maine and back a few times, way way up in Maine, plus all around NH and VT, nudge the Canadian border up in the barren tippity top of NH a couple of times (those were up and back all in 1 day trips from down here in coastal CT). Man...remembering back, my first Jeep hit all New England states and most of the islands....Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, Block Island, Fishers Island, Long Island.

I hated driving any distances in my jeep. No AC, cold in the winter wit the rag top too. Doors were wire frame with zippered plastic.

LOL yeah those 1/2 doors were noisy (my first jeep had the 1/2 doors, second Jeep had full doors). Down the highway they'd flap around in and out, you'd see the gap in them. driving in snow blizzards sometime snowflakes would make their way in through the gap when barreling down the highway.

And you almost had to yell to carry on a conversation with a passenger at highway speeds.
My second jeep had full doors and I had both a hard top and soft top. Hard top and full doors made for a better winter experience and quieter highway travel.

But they were Jeeps! They were fun! No matter what the season was, there was an advantage.
Wintertime....snow...who cares if it's snowing 18" a day for 3 days straight, they drove through anything.
Summertime...top down, doors off, sometimes the windshield folded down...plugs in the floors pulled in case of rain...open driving summer fun!

Easy has heck to work on. Those big engine bays with the simple straight 6...last of the easy engines I had to work on, easily get to all plugs and the oil filter without having to contort yourself.

About 10 years ago, I took an old guy up to Buffalo, NY to pick up ~7 boxes of his personal stuff. We left Tampa mid afternoon, arrived Buffalo early next morning, loaded the boxes, he wanted me to see Niagra Falls so we cruised there and into the Canadian side, and was heading back South around noon. I was running with a couple of fast cars (I was in a van) for much of the way South, blowing through Charlotte at ~100 mph, when something told me to slow down. The BMW and other car vanished ahead of me...however in a few minutes the road ahead was lite up red and blue. I am glad that I slowed down to my normal 80-85 mph when I did! From the amount of police there, I would not want to pay their tickets...

Anyway, Tampa to Niagra Falls and back to Tampa, stopping only for fuel/food and the ~3 hours to load his boxes and check out the Falls, I drove a little less than 2900 miles in less than 45 hours... (I did take ~30 minute cat nap at a rest area somewhere around SC coming home)

It has been a long time, however those details are about what I remember. Actually, I may have made a post here about it or some of you may recall it...
