Where does your plastic go?

Post by Humboldt »

Some of it...right here: http://www.dump.com/beseen/

Not a big fan of landfills but they serve a purpose, like keeping this sh*t out of our oceans.

Thanks for the link, disturbing but I will definitely want to see the movie. I saw wild albatrosses for the first time on Thanksgiving morning. There is an amazing reserve a few miles from were I live that protects their eggs from the feral rats and mice. I managed to catch this guy in flight

Very nice shot DV. What camera?
It is a disturbing clip but it makes you think about where all this crap goes. I go through a lot of disposable stuff just like everyone else but the whole reduce/re-use/recycle concept seems more important every time you actually see something like this.

That was my first outing with my $100 Canon EF 50mm lens. The camera is a Rebel T3.

Sadly I've seen too many pieces about all of the garbage in the Pacific and what it is doing. But I like to think stories and links like the one you posted help raise awareness and possibly change some peoples habits for the better. I just heard this story on NPR about all of the garbage from the Tsunami that devastated Japan that has ended up on Alaskan shores http://m.npr.org/news/Science/170858057

Hi Humboldt

Sad to see.

We here sort our garbage into recyclables. We separate plastics, tins and glass into one batch, Cardboard & paper into another and waste is kept separated from that and its then all separately recycled. It all helps the environment a bit.

Hey DV, good to see you around! And a nice pic! And link! :)

Batteries are a bad thing for landfills as many birds, including eagles, eat them... I have a 5 gallon bucket from Batteries Plus that I ask everyone to put all their old batteries in, when full, I drop it off and get a new bucket. (All batteries, be it small disposable, cell phone even lsrge batteries from tools...)

Thanks Ken, always good to see you around. I often lurk but rarely post, (or thank Larry for great posts like the space station video I passed on to several friends).

Hey Cybo,thanks for the link.

It is hard to watch.

Like the title says though, it's something everyone should see.

Out of sight, out of mind seems very prevalent.
