Rotty is deathly sick :^(

3 days a go our Rotty began acting a little "off" for lack of a better word. He seemed slow, a bit irritable and wouldn't eat. Yesterday he was lathargic so we took him to the VET. They did a blood panel to check for Lymes and other apparent things but the lymes came back negative. He does have elevated white blood cells & something I can't remember but the Doc said it could be a parasite, etc.. Gave him some antibiotics and Tramadol (low dose narc). He's always been on his heartworm, frontline, shots, etc.. He is not improving but will eat meat if hand fed. He just got his CD and Mamma is proud of him. We have also started to cart train and wanted to get him in that competition as well but right now we're just sick not knowing what is wrong with our dog. Just a few days a go he was a vibrant, 20 month old Male Rotty with all the spunk and good nature we could ask for. May need to drive 90 miles to a specialist but the fact that the local Vet can't find a thing has us worried.

Sorry to hear that, hopfully it's something that'll pass quickly. I've had dogs do the same thing and most of the time they get better after a little while.

Any chance he could've gotten into any garbage or raw fish, any bad mushrooms, any rat bait, or antifreeze?

Is he drinking ok?

Thanks guys. Excellent thought on the anti-freeze but we don't believe this is the cause as he doesn't exhibit some of the extremely common side effects such as increased thirst, urinating, seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, ect..

The other thing I couldn't remember in the blood tests was high Eosinophils. After some research we discovered that this can also indicate an attack on a parasite or even a food allergy. The one thing that might be a possibility is food. At a show in Chicago last week my Wife was given some Purina Pro Plan Performance samples and he ate that for a couple days before he started feeling ill. Now we are wondering if it is a severe allergy reaction to the food. Maybe it's a tainted bag that the Chi-coms loaded with melamine! That's almost not a joke but it could be something in that food that did this. We stopped the food a couple days a go and are hoping to see an improvement.

He seems to be perking up a bit. Still no diagnosis. One day we think he hurt his neck but that doesn't explain the white blood cells & Eosinophils. The only thing we have done different is food. If you Google Purina brand foods it is scary and we were feeding the ultra high end label. I guess anything is possible.

Finally seeing some serious improvement. Still have no clue what happened but very suspicious of a serious allergic reaction to food. Seem to cause physical/neurological damage. He's back to eating, drinking and following us around the house. No more irritability or acting lethargic. Thanks for the concerns.
