replacement fan GEForce 7800 GS OC

Post by Humboldt »

Any suggestions? I'm seeing a lot of fans but none that will fit this model...also seeing threads that short of zip tying a case fan to it that there are no replacement fans that will fit it. My fan tries to turn but fails completely...some people mention burning a small hole throug the circuit board and adding a drop of oil..?

Thanks

i have a few old cards that have fans rigged on them, just get creative with the zip ties, if ya need a fan let me know, i have tons of spares.

you can even suspend one under the card and have it blow up.

DO NOT burn a whole through the board. That is very dangerous.

If you hae a heatsink shroud covering the heatsink, you may have to remove that, if you can, to get better coverage with your replacement fan, an 80mm would probably do.

For what it's worth.

Zalman VF900-CU Copper Dual Heatpipe seems to work well although about $50. Maybe consider buying a newer card?

Thanks, looked at that last night after seeing it mentioned on some other forums, but it's listed as working on...

I bought a replacement HSF for my 8600 GT a while back - a few days before I noticed the caps were swollen and opened on the ends. I plan on getting the caps replaced however the fan came from Ebay.

Look at this one..I may fit your card if the bolt pattern is the same. Who makes the card anyway you never said.

the problem with those 7800GS cards is the bridge chip, not sure the actual name of it, on them , there are very few aftermarket heatsinks made for them, i know i still have one sitting in a box that i need to sell some day.

like yard-o said, just pull the fan shroud off it and rig a fan to blow on it.

Thanks guys.

I ended up trying several other spare cards but in the meantime pulled the sticker off the axle of the fan and added a drop of oil.
Started right up

Spins fine for the time being, maybe it has bearings that went dry?
