ok, i need some help trying to set up a server to host my website. first of all, is this possible? second, is it possible to do without @home knowing about it? and third, where do i start. i know there are some vague questions here but i need somewhere to start.

It would be difficult specially if you have dynamic ip address. They(cable companies) don't like you to setup a server since this would hog some bandwidth. It would be an ethical and unfair to others since you are in a shared node.
DISCLAIMER: the @home licence prohits setting up a server. I post this for "educational purposes" only.
ok, now that my ass is covered, here's what you do.
@home (at least where I am) give you a static IP address. this is perfect for what you want to do.
Basically, all you need is a web server running on whatever machine you have connected to the modem.
The program you'll want to use depends on what you want to do, (I assume you're running windows)
If you want a very easy to use server that you dont really have to think too hard to set up, use PWS (on the win98 CD in add-ons\pws\setup.exe) Its made by M$, but its fairly powerful and has proper support for ASP which can be handy.
If you want a bit more power, with a bit more dificulty, go with Xitami (xitami.com) its an AWESOME server, but has no support for ASP, though you can get modules like active Perl and stuff to handle scripting.
If @ home comes and gets pissed off at you, just threaten to get xDSL, it worked for a guy I know who runs a small ISP off an @home account!
