Win2K Router

Post by Goaks »

I have set up an old PII333 using Win2K as a router for my Lan. I am using ICS to connect the Lan to the internet. This seems to work great except for one small problem. I will use the Game Tribes by Dynamix as an example.

Their master server list uses UDP port 28000 for incoming requests of games servers to regester. The game server itself, my box, uses UDP port 28001 to accept sign ons from players.

I have set the router to point all requests for these port numbers to point to my game server IP address.

My problem is, my game server is not regestering with the master server. However, if a box not connected to the lan, dials in, and uses a connect command that the game provides, I can get into the game.

This connect command uses the IP address that is assigned to my ISP connection with the port number. This way if an individual knows the IP address of the game server he wants to play on, he does not have to select it from the master game server list. This tells me that the router is directing traffic to the right IP address on the LAN.

I have tried adding application entries, as well as service entries to the shared connection, pointing both ports 28000 and 28001 to the IP address of the gamesever, and still can't get it to regester with the master server, but the darn thing can be accessed from the outside.

Currently I am using a dail up until my SDSL line gets put in. I am just trying to work out all the bugs.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?

Thanks

Ed

being that is my favorite game, with my router [running on win98se, until me comes out], i have forwarded ports 28000-28004 on it to host. i also had to have my friends manually add the ip address. with servies like roadrunner, and any pppoe dsl, the dynamic ip becomes a factor. they have really secured that hosting will be made difficult and unreliable. other that, no problems to report.
