Help with hard drive
ok just recieved barebone kit and it contains a 1.5 TB hard drive its a western digital green hard drive. I had windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on it and i tried using partition magic and some other partition program and it wouldnt read it said bad when i opened the program. So im on xp 32 bit now and the max limit of creating a partition on this drive is 7 mb and thats with partition magic 8. I probably should have done it during installation before formatting but I have done it this way with all my hard drives and basically just split the main drive in half once on windows that way I have access to like a calculator so i can calculate how many gigs i want into megabytes. I'm just needing to split it in half so I need to make at least a 400-500 GB partition but max size Im allowed is 7 mb can't store anything on that. I had to put a jumper on pins 7 & 8 to be able to install xp that was instructed on the hard drive. So what should I do or what can I do really need extra partition for storage purposes so I can copy my other Sata drive contents onto this one?

Windows 7 can resize partitions with its own built in tools, in disk management, you don't need 3rd party partition management software anymore.
Regardless, since you downgraded to old Windows XP...did you service pack XP yet? You can create/delete partitions in disk management in Windows XP...what errors do you get there? Does disk management see all of the remaining space of the HDD?

Yeah SP3 is integrated. I tried the disk management in Windows 7 It showed all the space but wouldn't let me create a new partition or resize the current one. Apparently Partition Magic cannot support Terabyte hard drives because it said bad/damaged and in XP it said I could only make a 7 mb partition. Didn't have the option in XP's disk management either to create or resize/split finally I have used acronis disk director and it has worked. But the weird thing about when I installed xp when I got to the format screen it basically showed unpartitioned space from what that was saying is Windows 7 wasn't installed on it or is that because I had to put a jumper on it? Also I checked Fitness & Performance in speedfan of the drive and Im only gettin 96% on both options is that normal for a brand new drive or not supposed to happen? My choice is to run Windows 7 but it didn't run right it froze up a lot for some reason but XP is fine this is brand new custom built computer. Core I3 550 3.2 ghz 4 GB corsair DDR3 Ram and im running the graphics built into CPU for now. XP 32 bit is not seeing all my 4 gb's of ram it sees 3.17 not happy about that either

The WinXP error with the 7mb...that may be related to the partitioning being done by a newer OS (the Win7 install). When I'm installing an OS...I always like to delete any/all existing partitions, and then create fresh ones..and then run a format, and then install. I prefer to create/format partitions using native tools to the OS (the setup/install routine).
