Re-flowing laptop graphics card

Post by Humboldt »

Anyone here tried it?

I've got a good amount of desktop hardware experience, never cracked a laptop.

Friend with a dead HP dv6000.

Makes sense, unless she wants to go though with the lawsuit and file a claim after 12/20/10 once the suit is pushed through.

I have done it, Humby, on a couple of laptops so far and all of them worked initially but ended up going bad again after a couple of months. I think I was a bit too conservative when I was heating up the chip and did not do it long enough or get it hot enough. Make sure if you do it to insulate the other parts of the motherboard very well with the aluminum foil.

Oh, and if you've never cracked open a lappy before you WILL have a screw or two leftover when you finish putting it back together. :)
