Is Road Runner Cable good
I am thinking about getting Road Runner Cable for my new comp and I want good download speeds and great pings on games. Please tell me if road runner is good for pings.

Judging from some of the messages on here, I think you'll hear some people say "No". But I have it and it makes online gaming MUCH smoother and for most purposes it is everything I was looking for. But it is a party-line type of thing, so the more people in your area with it, the slower it gets. Unless RR upgrades. There is an interesting article on this site about it that is pretty informative about cable.

So, someone else will have to talk detail on pings and whatnot, but it was a better deal for me than DSL in Northern VA cause DSL was a 1 year contract and cable is month to month. If it starts to suck, I'll dump it.
Good luck,

Really, i depends, if Gaming is absolutely the most important thing about your internet use, I would go for DSL, especially SDSL, but if u want a good mixture of Download and gaming, ADSL would be my first preference, because it is moderately fast and stable, low pings. But if you absolutely just want the fast downloads and don't care about security and don't play that many games all day, then Road Runner is the way to go, man
PS: don't forget that tweaking any broadband and your ISP, including your area will make a massive difference

I have BellSouth's FastAccess ADSL and I have to say that they have some of the best routing of any of the national ISPs and better than some of the local ISPs as well. But since you live in Texas, that's not available to you, so-
I would first get RR since it is quick installation and easy to cancel (usually no contracts, etc.) Then if that does not meet your expectations, try getting DSL.

I'm pretty happy with my RR service. You may already know that you have to subscribe for the cable TV sevice as well. With digital cable TV and RR, my bill is about $75 a month
So if you ever want satalite TV, you got to cancle both subs. and go with DSL or what ever. Just something else to consider.

I have @home which is comprible to road runner where i live and its been a very good isp. I average about 2500kbs d/l on it and it hasnt been down in 6 months that ive had it. Dont let the people before fool you the modem is not the only thing that will give you good pings in online games. There are so many variables when dealing with online games especailly cable modems like where the server is in relation to you and traffic on the lines to the server. I would like to recommend a good isp that im going to be getting in the near future. 1.4meg dsl from earthlink. My friend who has it said it is twice as fast and only 10$ more then im paying now. I think you should atleast check to see if they offer it before you make a snap decision.Free installation also right now

RR...Well, i have rr...I got it December of 2000. For the first few weeks. It ran real fast but had trouble staying connected. So, i called them up, they sent there tech guy and said i had a low signal...before my connection was about 100k/s...after he fixed my signal...i had about 362k/s....my high being 682k/s (wow)....the uploads and downloads are great with road runner... the only thing that gives me a problem now is my ping....it takes to with them to get to fix it...but soon i'll get it fixed...i say go for RR...I would go with it over my old connection AoHell with that damn 56gay any day...hope what i say helps on your choice...lata
