Pinging

I have had trouble playing Madden 2k with a friend over IP. We have been able to get linked up but when trying to play the game it gets very laggy. I have RR and my friend connects dialup at 49 to 50. I let him host other wise I know we would have problems. So last night I had him ping my machine and it was timing out even though we could link. I have tried pinging my machine at home from work and no avail. A few nights ago everything ran fine. Has anyone ran into this problem before? I have an email into RR but this place rules for info. Thanks.
