Help with restoring a new hard drive

I dont know if it is possible, but my friend has Norton Ghost 14 or 15 not sure which one exactly, and made an backup of his entire hard drive (250gb) and stored it on an external hard drive. His 250gb hard drive just stopped working so he brought a new hard drive which is a 500gb. Is there a way to use the backup on the external drive and put it on the 500gb hard drive or is he kinda sol and that backup is useless?

Just boot from CD and restore/clone the image from the backup drive to the new 500 giger. Can select to "stretch" the restore to it will utilize the full drive.
