Downgraded from 10mbps to 1mb - HALP! :(

Post by Capitalizt »

Hey folks, I downgraded to the lowest possible speed my cable company offered (for $$ reasons) and it really stinks. Originally I had 10MB down, 1mb up..now 1MB down, 256k up (speed tests are in line with this). My real world download speed went from roughly 900kbps to 100kbps.

I'm using InsightBB in Louisville on a Windows 7 machine. Here are my settings:

« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
Tested on: 03.27.2010 16:58
IP address: 74.141.xxx.xxx
Client OS: Windows 7

TCP options string: 020405b40103030201010402
MSS: 1460
MTU: 1500
TCP Window: 65700 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 2 bits (2^2=4)
Unscaled RWIN : 16425
Recommended RWINs: 64240, 128480, 256960, 513920, 1027840
BDP limit (200ms): 2628kbps (329KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 1051kbps (131KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 114
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

I can't change RWIN since I'm on Windows 7. Is there anything else I can do to boost speeds?

Some uneven ping times at the modem in hop 1 that magnify through to hop 3.

Power off the modem and relocate it away from ALL other electrical devices. Make sure you do not coil up any signal or power cables.
