Here are my system specs:
Athlon 64 3200+ (~2.0GHz)
GeForce 8800 GTS (1064 MB)
2 Gigs of Ram
not sure about the mobo
I'm trying to watch some 720p and 1080p .mkv files with VLC Media Player. The 720p is slightly choppy, and the 1080p is basically unwatchable, the video is frozen most of the time while the audio continues.
I'm just wondering if this is simply due to my PC not being powerful enough to play them back or if there are some settings/customizations I'm not aware of that perhaps will allow a smooth watchable playback. Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.

You played the Song of Storms!
Try this program...it should help offload the HD decoding to your video card and play smooth as silk.
