Report: Weis out after five seasons

Charlie Weis is out after five seasons as Notre Dame coach, the New York Daily News is reporting.

The newspaper cited a source close to the program for its report.

Notre Dame players have scheduled a mid-afternoon players meeting for Monday while awaiting official word on Weis. The meeting will include a vote on whether the players want to play in a bowl game after a 6-6 season.

Weis was not in his office early Monday. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will make a decision on Weis' future within the next few days.

Rumors I hear has him tied to Kansas City. Scott Pioli who was the Asst. GM at NE is the chief in charge at KC now.

Don't forget he was in the Skybox offering to call the plays for the Pats in the 07 Super bowl.

Figured he'd go soon.. ND has deeper alum ties than what UVA does and is less tolerant.

Bowden is next.. he should give up that head coach spot... same would be for Beamer in the next few years... let Bud Foster take over and finally get rid of Stienspring!

Honestly, my guess is Bowden will announce his retirement tomorrow. I think the AD is going to tell him he is giving more power to Fisher and BB will go out with his dignity. Just a guess.

sounds like a good guess to me.. he wants a national championship he won't get and he wants a longer record than what JoeP has but he won't get it.

Sources: Bowden to retire

TALLAHASSEE -- Legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, who built one of college football's greatest dynasties in 34 seasons with the Seminoles, plans to announce his retirement Tuesday morning, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

Bowden, whose 388 career victories trail only Penn State's Joe Paterno as college football's winningest coach, met with FSU president TK Wetherell and athletic director Randy Spetman on Monday morning. According to sources, Bowden was given two options: return to FSU in 2010 as an ambassador to the program, in which he would have little input in the day-to-day operations of the program, or retire after the Seminoles' upcoming bowl game.

Sources told ESPN.com that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, who was named Bowden's eventual successor near the end of the 2007 season, has agreed to contract terms to replace Bowden after this season. The school's booster organization would have owed Fisher $5 million if he didn't replace Bowden by January 2011.

Bowden, 80, led FSU to national championships in 1993 and '99 and 14 consecutive top-five finishes in the Associated Press top 25 poll from 1987 to 2000. But the Seminoles finished 6-6 after last week's 37-10 loss at No. 1 Florida, which was the third time in four seasons that FSU lost six games.

He didn't make the call the Board of Trustees made the call.

Dickie V was on Mike and Mike (ESPN) this morning going off about the way it was handled by the staff. He did raise a good question of what Jimbo Fisher is going to do next year that Bowden couldnt have done.

I'm starting to think Bowden will be back. The football coach at my school I work at used to play for Bobby at FSU and his remarks to me a few minutes ago is that he believes Bobby will be the figure head, but pretty much let Fisher run the team.

I think guys like JoePa and BB won't know what they will do with themselves after they retire. I've heard both of them say that. I do think BB should get out, but now I'm thinking he won't for at least 1 more year. At that point I think he will retire.
