wow, ZA problems...

Post by anths »

well, I had ZA while I had AOL and the high settings never let me do anything on the internet. I now have cable and was using both high settings, but noticed that it would stop certain things from loading or downloading (i.e. songs off of napster). Now i have the local set to min and internet set to medium. are these settings safe? I would like to run them at high, but ZA just wont run at high setting AND work correctly, any suggestions on gettin this to work?
Peace,
Anthony

Thats normal, sometimes you need to lower the the security setting on ZA in order to do certain things, i.e. Napster or any other File Sharing program.

For napster, open up napster and click on file > preferences > sharing.
Set the "share files with napster users on TCP port" 0.
Set the port to zero. That works most of the time.
Give it a shot.

its not just napster though. I have it on min for local and medium for internet. if i had them both on high, it would take me much longer to get on a webpage, if it even let me... anyone know of another good free (or close to free) firewall? ZA is really busting my balls lately.
Peace,
Anthony

What version of Zone Alarm are you currently using??? If it is 2.1.44 than you could try upgrading to the latest version and see if that helps. The latest version is 2.6.

I have had no problems with the security levels set to high.
The only problems I have had was with networking but I have worked out those bugs.
