How to receive a fax over internet?

I don't have a home phone anymore but I'd like to setup a fax machine...how do I go about doing this without getting a VOIP setup.

Suggestions?

Just setup an online fax...like eFax. Works via e-mail client like Outlook.

Its not free for starters and even with the highest Pro version will cost nearly 20$/month for only 200 pages a month which I will likely get more faxes in a months time for sure.

Other options? Cause it sounds as if I'll have to maybe grab that damn magicjack again just to hook up a fax machine since it appears to be the cheapest.

I know there are some free versions...but they slap ads on the faxes.
MyFax is another one.....like 12 bucks/mo. There are some higher volume ones like 1000/mo for under 20....just gotta search 'em. After trying a few, I recommended eFax to a few clients of mine because of its ease of use and integration with Outlook.

I set up a fax in XP but it was quite a long time ago. Do a search on Google “fax software” or maybe thiswill help.

eFax has a free version which gives you a random # only for receiving faxes. I just signed up for an account last week. Catch is that it's in a proprietary format and you have to use their Efax Messenger program to open them.

hmm.. I would imagin that MS software requires you to use a phone line to work.

Does efax's free service allow me to get a unlimited amount using the same number all the time or I guess it changes at random each time? Cause I need something to dedicate a number to the sender. I won't be sending any, just receiving them.

eFax assigns you a dedicated # that never changes, but the free service only allows 20 incoming faxes a month. Anything more and they start nagging you about upgrading to a premium package.

yeah so far its a better option to just get that damn magicjack again ( hope they have a local prefix this time) and hook a fax machine off it since its only 19$ a year vs a monthly charge...plus it would give me a land line back which I did away with.

Check out Onesuite online fax service at $1/month. You'll get a phone number plus unlimited receiving. All faxes forwarded to your email.
