InoculateIT VS Norton
I have norton antivirus 2001, but my neighbors just got a new computer and it came with no virus scanner at all. Should I tell them to get InoculateIT or Norton Antivirus 2001. How do the two compare??? What are the differences????

Matt.... InnoculateIT or AVG, both free, both can be configured to update automaticaly. All you do is set the frequency of the update checks to suit your requirements.
InnoculateIT updates more regularly than AVG and both are much smaller resource hogs.
IMHO AVG is a better email scanner but that's just MHO.
AVG is easier to configure. All you need do is set the Heuristics option to work (check the box in Control Centre.(oops "Center")
InnoculateIT is a free spinoff of VET Antivirus.

When it asks you if you want to monitor an install that is not norton antivirus. That is a program that is a part of norton system works which is called cleen sweep. I disabled that because you are right it was very annoying when I was installing things. I just disabled it so I dont have to hear from it anymore.

Like Matt said, that's the CleanSweep option of System Utilities. You can take that off just like you can Norton's AntiVirus.Originally posted by emixnem:
well, i do hav the norton system works 2001 ..but i only installed norton utilities ..cuz the norton antivirus one..it just annoys me..evertime i try to install sumtin and it tells me if i wanted to monitor it..and i said yes...but it f*cks it up....i dont kno
maybe its just my comp..
I use Innoculate IT, but have Norton's System Utilites configured so that I can access the manual Cleansweep and the Utilities themselves. Especially the Utilities are priceless.
emixnem... I think you will find there are a lot of "two virus program users" out there.
The question you and anyone else should be asking is whether you really want to run with two.
I am one and with care during the download process they will run without file conflict.
The ones I use are AVG and InnoculateIT PE.
The way to download is to get AVG first and then InnoculateIT. Before you download the second AVG must be shut down completely. To do this open the Control Center in AVG and place a check in "Disable Resident Shield".
This will shut down AVG's scanning capabilities. Then close the systray icon by clicking on the Shutdown AVG Control Centre in the popup that appears after right clicking the systray icon and the prompt. There will be no trace of AVG on the screen.
Download InnoculateIT and set it up if default is not how you want it. I would suggest that you leave both at default and learn about what is going on by watching.
Reboot and AVG will come back automatically at the default level. You will know this bacause the AVG systray icon will show all four colours.
The experience I have had with using two AV programs is limited to these two programs. I would not attempt to run programs with the system requirements of Norton and say ...McAfee. You may well experience some of Keepers file conflict issues.
I hope this helps.

I had used Norton for awhile but switched over to Inoculate a ways back. My main reason for switching over is because Norton did not get along with WinME. I had Norton SystemWorks 2001 and WinME and I always got an illegal operation in "navshell.dll". Even if I had just reformatted and installed it fresh, that would eventually come up and screw up my computer until I rebooted. Now I'm on Win2k with Inoculate and it works great.

It can't rain all the time...

Thats what happened to me with NAV. You need the 2001's on ME. THe 2000's aren't compatable (retail..newer OEMs are). Just search on the Symantec Help Center and it has something about this. You need to delte a file and it will be back to normal.Originally posted by Juggernaut:
