Multicore folding
Multicore folding
Being of the old school, I am familiar with setting up multiple instances of fah. However with Vista64, quad core CPU's and GPU folding, I am a bit lost. I could use a bit of hand holding to guide me through.

Doesn't make any difference between 32-bit or 64-bit, it's the same.
When you download and install the new folding system, it will install it in two places, first the main folding location is going to be in 'Program Files (x86)', just look for the Folding@Home directory. Open it and select the program 'Folding@home' (don't worry about the second directory it creates as you won't be using it)
Right click on it and it'll let you make a shortcut on the desktop.
Here's what I do;
1. Make directory's on the C: drive called FAH0, FAH1, FAH2, and FAH3
2. Rename the shortcut to be FAH0 to match the directory.
3. Copy and Paste the FAH0 shortcut and rename them FAH1, FAH2, and FAH3.
4. Then go into the properties of each shortcut and redo the directory to start in as the FAHx for each one.
5. Then double click on each one so that you fill out the client information for each one, select autostart and if your lucky they will then start up automatically each time your computer reboots. (Might want to double check that a couple of times before you delete the shortcuts off the desktop, or leave them there)
Now then the SMP has to be done differently.
There are 2 different versions of SMP, one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit.
Download the one to match your operating system.
Create the folding directories as above, except I name them SMP0, etc.
Easiest to read the install instructions that's with the program.
Here however you have to locate the folding directory it creates which in Vista is c:\users\UsersName\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-SMP (or something like that, I don't have an example here)
Copy all the files there, really all you need is a couple, but make a clean sweep, and paste them in each of the SMP directories.
Make your shortcuts from Program Files (x86) SMP as above and away you go, these are not set up to autostart each time with Vista or Win 7 so you can try but it ain't gonna work.
Now then the GMP version.
Pretty much as SMP above, except you only need as many directories as you have graphics cards.
On the shortcuts on these however you do need to add a command on the command line where it still points to the program in the Program Files (x86) directory. -gpu 0 on the first shortcut, -gpu 1 on the second shortcut, and -gpu 2 on the next until you run out of graphics cards on that computer.
