Vista Problems

Post by Dale-C »

Last week I decided to reformat and put Vista back on. As soon as I put it on I follow the SG Vista/2008 Guide. I did it and my internet has never been this bad, last time it worked and this time it didn't. I have the exact same Ethernet drivers and everything as my last install. I play online games and lagout ever 5 seconds then get kicked for loosing keypackets or timing out.

Here are my settings:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\Dale>
C:\Users\Dale>
C:\Users\Dale> netsh int tcp show global
Querying active state...

TCP Global Parameters
----------------------------------------------
Receive-Side Scaling State : enabled
Chimney Offload State : enabled
Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level : disabled
Add-On Congestion Control Provider : ctcp
ECN Capability : disabled
RFC 1323 Timestamps : disabled

Registry Entires:
Parametres: http://i41.tinypic.com/10df8u8.jpg
Interfaces: http://i40.tinypic.com/erzjte.jpg
MSMQ/Parametres thingy is: TCPNoDelay 1
The host thing is; 4/5/6/7 as in the guide.

Parametres:

SG TCP Analyser:

« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
Tested on: 06.19.2009 05:05
IP address: 121.45.xx.xxx
Client OS: Windows Vista

TCP options string: 0204058c01010402
MSS: 1420
MTU: 1460
TCP Window: 65320 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 0 bits
Unscaled RWIN : 65320
Recommended RWINs: 65320, 130640, 261280, 522560, 1045120
BDP limit (200ms): 2613kbps (327KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 1045kbps (131KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 117
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

And Router Says I'm connected at 17000/1200KBit But I used download max 1.7MByte and 17Mbit = 2MByte right? Now I'm DLing at max 300KByte.

Any router things I should change like MTU or something? I have a Netgear DG834v2

I would like to get the lowest latency ingame but also maintain a High Speed.

Dale.

I've got the EXACT problem. and i mean EXACT. i reformatted and everything and it screwed over my speeds/connection after the format. and to akbarri, you may think your helping, but your not. your being quite ignorant. you posted the exact same thing on my post. If you even read my or his post, it says that we've already done that. please actually read and think before posting your reply.

MTU: 1460
It should be 1492 (DSL) or 1500 (cable) !

Try the following with TCP Optimizer and see if MTU will change :

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU - 1500
TTL - 64
Windows Scaling - uncheck
TCP Receive Window - leave blank
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 10
LocalPriority - 5
Host Priority - 6
DNSPriority - 7
NetbtPriority - 8
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768

Doesn't help at all, and I have also heard that TCP Optimiser doesn't work in Vista? Also it doesn't matter what I change my MTU, 1492 or 1500 the Analyser always gives me 1460. My router says 1492 tho

Vista has no tweakable registry value for TCP Window (RWIN). It relies on auto-tuning. But in some cases, TCP Optimizer is also a tool for increasing MTU !

Check and see if you need to update firmware for NIC and router !

Na everything with my ISP/Modem/NIC/Ethernet cable is alright, only when I reformatted that is when I had the problem. My other computer which has Vista doesn't have this trouble and I have the exact same registry settings :\

"Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level : disabled"

Auto-tuning should be set to normal, and not disabled.

Why is that? Is normal sufficient for Gaming and Downloading at high speeds?

The auto-tuning feature in Vista is generally a superior feature to XP. It automatically adjusts RWIN values to suit latencies of differing connections, while in XP, we must manually set a RWIN value to suit one best condition.

Well Normal makes my internet browsing ridiculously slow and no matter what I set the Auto Tuning to I can't download past 180kb/s! Something is seriously wrong.

Problem may not be in TCP settings, but in signal quality.

So a tracert to http://www.yahoo.com and post.

Well I did some stuffin around and my internet is back to normal!

Here is what I did; Downloaded this: http://www.speedguide.net/files/vista/S ... _patch.cmd

Run it.

Manually make my DefaultTTL to 60, cos thats max what I get from pinging my ISP no matter what TTL I choose.

And open up CMD and do this:

netsh int ipv4 set dynamicportrange protocol=tcp start=1025 num=64511
netsh int ipv4 set dynamicportrange protocol=udp start=1025 num=64511
netsh int ipv4 set dynamicport tcp start=1025 num=64511
netsh int ipv4 set dynamicport udp start=1025 num=64511

I don't think it makes any sense lol but my internet is fine, and playing online is smooth as usual!
