need help optimizing!

Post by chipotle »

Hello, I need help tweaking my internet connection. I have the tcp optimizer but dont really know what to put in for my internet connection.

i have verizon dsl westelll wirespeed modem with broadband firewall router with VIA compatable fast ethernet adapter.

IP Address: 98.112.138.59 (98.112.138.59)
Client OS: Windows XP
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10
Please Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
TCP options string = 020405b4
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 65535

Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535).
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
64240 (up to 2 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44)
128480 (1-5 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2)
256960 (2-14 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^2)
513920 (8-30 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^3)
1027840 (25-60 Mbit lines depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^4)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 2621 kbps (328 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 1049 kbps (131 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 119 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

my speed is

54 kbps down (~0.05 Mbps, 7 KB/s)↓
246 kbps up (~0.25 Mbps, 30 KB/s)↑

MTU - 1492
TTL - 64
Windows Scaling - uncheck
TCP Receive Window - 11616
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 4
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 4
LocalPriority - 5
Host Priority - 6
DNSPriority - 7
NetbtPriority - 8
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 0
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0

TCP Receive Window - 11616
Just change it to 17424.

I'd use 64240 for more than 3 mbps line !

Because TCP Formula :

TCP Window (RWIN) = Down*latency/8

Setting Rwin to 17424 will be adequate to cover a latency of 120 - 200 ms (in USA) for his 768 kbps line.

ok!! thx for advice & formula :)

before i only refer to TCP/IP Analyzer.
ex:
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
64240 (up to 2 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44) <= 768 kbps line in this category
128480 (1-5 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2)
256960 (2-14 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^2)
513920 (8-30 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^3)
1027840 (25-60 Mbit lines depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^4)

Hey im back.....well i fell like i just totally screw with my internet and its going really really slow now.

since iv been optimizing and switching my internet settings around i just boned up my internet connection. i tryed putting it back to the setting of 256k but it was going really slow and i tryed to put it back to the windows defaults setting but its still really really slow.

is there any way i could go back to default settings and have a normal speed.

i feel like the biggest noob on the internet
